I collected my car on 31/1/23 and so far it has been fine although I am still learning about its capabilities.
When I have driven it I have regeneration on 3 which is the highest setting. But my wife prefers it on the lowest setting.
So I was just wondering what the rest of you set regeneration at.

keeping it at ker 3, since it is closer to 1 pedal driving, using the go pedal to lower or increase the regen. Coming from a zoe so learned to use neutral power from it.

I sometimes use Adaptive regen (if I remember to change the setting to it). It tends to be like regen 1 until a) it detects something in front, or b) you tap the brake - either of a or b increase the regen temporarily.

I find low to be best but I'm not stopped in traffic much. High regen feels like it's pulling on the car to me. Low feels a little like coasting. Feels better I think when not braking that much.

I also use the highest setting. As has been said above, you get used to easing off the accelerator pedal by different amounts to coast or apply light regen. It's a way of driving that I had to get the hang of with our previous BMW i3 which had stronger regen than level 3 in the MG and no choice of settings - it was always full on. The BMW would 1 pedal drive to a complete stop and applied its regen quite strongly the moment you lifted off so I learnt how to moderate it with my right foot. I find the MG feels much more gradual in bringing in the regen.
Having said that, I could be tempted to use lower regen levels on motorways so that I can flex my foot a bit more. Or maybe I should try adaptive regen. However, I tend to use ACC on motorways when the traffic is flowing reasonably. It's a bit sudden in it's changes of speed but I've found it tolerable now I've got used to it.

Thank you for your inputs which I understand and agree with. As you say it is a case of horses for courses and the MG4 gives you those options.

There’s some pretty steep and/or windy hills near us and coming from an old leaf (so not quite one-pedal) it seems strange to have to still accelerate going down these hills in regen 3. It feels less economical to be doing that. Will compare the power readings at the various regens while I get used to the car.

Do you remember the first time you drove an i3 and stopped about 25 metres short of the junction? Loved it once I got used to it though.

Indeed I do. And slowing down way too much for corners that I then then twitched my way through in a series of bites due to the very responsive steering. It was a car that certainly took a bit of getting used to! But I also loved it.

For Motorway driving I use regen 1/adaptive a lot of times you want to not accelerate but not break either. So lifting your foot of the accelerator does not lead to a lot of breaking. Also it takes more energy to accelerate than you get back in regen so you get better mileage. In town always regen3.

Think of it this way, regen3 puts most back into the battery but slows the car significantly, so you then have to accelerate again to regain your speed. Regen1 allows you to coast so uses less power to maintain your speed but puts less into the battery 'off throttle'. I have assigned the left hand star button to regen mode, and shuttle between both, but mainly drive on regen1 as I'm not range dependant.

Regen 3 doesn't slow the car significantly if you don't want it to. It can even coast if you want it to. It all depends on learning to come off the accelerator in a controlled way to modulate how much regen you apply. Lift off just a little bit and you'll get a little regen, lift more and it will get stronger. When I first drove an ev I used to lift off completely like an ice car and slowly learnt that I could feed regen in in the same way that I can feed power in simply by lifting off more steadily. It doesn't have to be all or nothing!

Exactly that.

I think the MG4 was the first one to incorporate it. Not sure if the MG5 facelift also now incorporates it.
