Has anyone else ever had an issue with their cars where after pressing down the brake pedal, the gear selector isn’t illuminated and the car will not turn off the parking brake?

I have it on video, but I’m pretty sure Santander will ignore it like they have all of the other issues I’ve had…

Sometimes you have to give it a few seconds longer than usual after pressing the brake pedal to let all the systems boot up otherwise it gets confused.

It’s also worth making sure the key is in proximity and has been detected .

RevMatchers on YouTube reported on this annoyance as well. I have to say its never been an issue for me, I always wait for the ready chime before trying to select a drive mode, and it always pings by the time I have my seat belt on.

I think you can drive it without the seatbelt fastned. It would be nuts to have to fasten a seatbelt to drive the car out of your garage. There may be something that stops you going over a certain speed without it. I don't know, I haven't tried.

There's always the old trick of fastening the belt across the seat and sitting on it, or fastening the passenger seat belt in the driver's buckle. Not that I ever did that when I was delivering election leaflets, perish the thought. And it was nearly all on farm tracks m'lud.

In the Golf the annoying warning chime eventually got bored and gave up. I have a crawling suspicion that the MG4's might not though.

I was trying to move my car and it wouldn't let me until my seat belt was fastened, so I've always clipped in. I only remember because I was in a hurry, and it annoyed me! Haha

It wasn't until recently when I was washing the car I wanted to move it a bit and didn't even think with being in a hurry, and it let me actually drive without clipping in - then I realised.... Oh!

I had problems, I couldnt get the gear shift rotary dial to put the car into D or R, and the foot brake pedal was high up, couldnt push it down
I believe the problem was that the key was not in proximity and had been detected .
I moved the key to the centre consol ( from my jacket pocket) and havent had any problems since
