Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Just an update to my post the other day. I tried my MG5 FL LR Trophy at the Tesla charger in Harrogate. It didn’t work😪.

I asked them about the Tesla issue, and weirdly, they seemed to know more about the issue than my MG dealer who were totally unaware.
They might very well know more than the dealers, but as far as I know, only MG can perform firmware updates. It's not like you do a Google search and download a firmware that seems right. There are interdependencies (some that even SAIC aren't always aware of, sadly), so SAIC insist that only they store the firmware. Infotainment software is an exception; I've heard of dealers having the update on a USB stick.

I wonder if one day "right to repair" legislation might make this sort of monopolisation illegal. And if that will create a better landscape for owners, or make it like the wild west.

Evening all. Sorry for the delay but Glyn Hopkin have only gotten back to me today.
The new EVCC software version number installed is '1150519801' and was upgraded from '1114351001' that was originally installed.

Got my MG5 Trophy last week. Tried a Tesla charger, didn't work. Took it back to the dealer the following day, they updated the software. Tried again today, it works. Other than Reading services, I probably won't use them much but good to know it is now working. Will be useful when I return to France this year.

Brilliant.
Did they say what software update was done.

Of course not. They swore blind it would work the day before. They didn't think the latest update had anything to do with the Tesla issue and suggested my failure the day before was due to the fact that I wasn't using the Tesla app. Duh!

Well done Paul and thank you for that information you did the right thing in taking it back And unless it’s a Tesla V4 you have no choice other than the app works every time with the MG4 so I agree Duh.

My SR wouldn't charge on either V3 or V4. The charger I tried at Lakeside was a V3 so I live in hope for the rest

No please I think you have misunderstood me what I was saying was they stood have know you have to use the Tesla APP on any Tesla charge point except a V4.

So Paul interesting point here is you say your SR wouldn’t charge on any !, but earlier in the thread #487 you write your MG5 Trophy model the trophy was never available as an SR
So if your car is a Trophy it can’t be a SR which is MK1 50 kWh vehicle.
Reason I ask is I was of the understanding only LR vehicles with the 61 kWh battery face lift or not, could be updated to use Tesla units.
Can you please clarify?

No the SR with the 50 kWh battery can’t and never could it’s only the LR models that should be able to use Tesla units.
I have no idea why I have written before any EV should be able to use any charging point which is open to public use in my book.

My original SR wouldn't charge, as we now all know. My recent adventures relate to my new Trophy. I was using the Tesla app at all times. I rather suspect my dealer was a little hazy on the Tesla issue and its relationship with their software

After 3 years of yearning, I got it to work for the first time last week. It is an amazing feeling to finally be able to charge at Tesla. The odd thing is, I have never actually needed to, and it is probably highly unlikely that I will ever need to, but still...

@Ranty did you have to ask for anything in particular.
My mot/service is due in July so i will ask for the update then, if it's not recalled beforehand

Could I ask any of ye lucky ones that have an OBD dongle to post the ECU versions using eZS app as per post #32 & 33 below?

Mine is new and so I complained that the MG web site said it could charge from Public Chargers so I expect to be able to use it on public chargers with CCS such as Tesla. They explained that only recently (25th Jan) had MG released a service bulletin that allows dealers to do software updates that are not a direct result of a 'fault'. (Not being able to charge at Tesla is not considered a fault, I'm told).

Prior to 25 Jan, (I'm told) MG controlled all the software upgrades centrally since the library was a mess - apparently they now have new software for dealers to manage software upgrades without the chance of 'bricking' modules. So it is meant to be discretionary now which, I guess, is why dealers are doing it on a goodwill basis.

However, there is a bit of a sting in the tail. I got a bunch of updates today and I notice that some settings for the MG Pilot are lost when you switch the car off. :(

It might be useful if people could share which dealers they've successfully had the required update applied via. I wasn't getting very far with Luscombe's in Leeds when I was last trying to get the update confirmed in the autumn.
