MG4 XPower Range and efficiency

Thanks all for your input guys earlier. I just wanted to update you that I am a proud owner of MG4 X-power :D (been for a week).

The Car is amazing, the sports mode is insane - haven't tried the Launch control yet but I am very glad I went for the X-power.

I have the 2024 version with a wiper at the back - Don't have the steering vibration or LKA built-in assassination so I am very pleased with it. I don't turn off LKA as it's working fine and also tried the TJA. It works fine also. Auto lane change is okay but wouldn't try in slow traffic. I prefer to manually change lanes or turn off TJA in slow traffic, change a lane, and turn TJA back on. My version is R40 for X-power (if anyone is wondering) not sure if it is different from Trophy specs.

Regarding efficiency, I am getting about 2.0 mi/kWh for small journeys below 5 miles and then slowly creeps to 2.5-3.5 mi/kWh depending on driving conditions and my mood (how fast I want to reach my destination). Most of my driving is in ECO driving mode, Energy Saving mode on, One Pedal drive (when available), ECO in the HVAC menu along with AC, and Auto Fan turned On in the HVAC menu. I Set temprature at 22°C. I preheat the car at 22°C for about 2-5 minutes before most of my journey and love the app. Had the initial hiccup with binding the car but managed to get it sorted after changing the Privacy Policy settings.

I have only driven for 150 miles (2.7 mi/kWh average so far) but very happy with the car. I will update once I have more miles under my belt or if LKA acts up.

Am I missing something here about "Auto Lane Change" - TJA in the brochure is:

"If the system detects dense traffic or a traffic jam at speeds below 35mph, the driver can activate this function. The MG4 EV will automatically follow the vehicle in front, controlling its acceleration ,braking and steering within the same lane.

It's not going to change lanes for you like a Tesla would. Well my Xpower never has anyway!

Topped up to 100% for 1st time in a couple of weeks and it optimistically shows 243 miles. Will need to start with 100% early Saturday for drive to Liverpool and if bladder holds out hoping to get to Tesla Banbury after 135 miles. Gonna try and use just Tesla SCs to save money this trip where possible.

never used TJA myself ... i stick with ACC ... which does prompt you to set off after being stopped in a queue.
I've been using TJA when on motorways/dual-carriageways as it combines the ACC part but also "tries" to stick within the lines and if brave enough to take your hands off the wheel briefly, it will notify you with an initial warning and then a more stricter telling off. It's certainly not Autopilot but it's a good start. It is a bit twitchy but then according to the brochure it's only supposed to be used under 35mph.

Wow so new and only R40?
Is there a newer version for XPower?

I believe the brochure is outdated. TJA works for any speed now and auto lane change has been there for a year at least based on video upload. I first noticed the function when I was reviewing MG4 Trophy Long Range (time 1:40) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1J1wDA5VNbA&list=PL0F2ipJaPmX_lpFjA3RTZ2H9G8L51aegt&index=35&t=428s

Let us know how you do on the trip and the efficiency you are getting. Information will be useful, to me at least :D - I might be doing a long trip in a month or two :)

Thanks for the YouTube link. I've seen that vid before but didn't pick up on the lane change thing. I wanna get out and try it!! His hands didn't seem to move so it appears that the indicator signal to change lane was enough, but I've never felt the car start to move (or maybe I instinctively manoeuvred as usual). Will try on Saturday on way to Liverpool. Should be quiet at 0430 just in case it wobbles about :)

@Mrugesh I still couldn't get Auto Lane Change to work on any combination of LKA/ACC/TJA etc. Nothing in the manual. How did you get it to work? Genuine question as at no point in 600 miles did the car change lanes for me when I indicated in ACC or TJA.

Thanks so much JohnnyG for the range info. You persuading me to owning XPower (which is what I was hoping for 😂). Do you know mpkw you are getting nowadays in city/motorway with eco/normal setting? Also, are you having issues with steering at high speed? Any other issue with handling or LKA?

Also, how does Camden Grey look on XPower? There aren’t too many video with that colour online.

Sorry for too many questions and thank you in advance.

Hi all, I am planning to buy MG4 but I am torn between MG4 Trophy Long Range and MG4 XPower. I like both models but wanted some comparison on XPower real world range and efficiency to MG4 Trophy LR. I can afford the upgrade but I want to see if it’s possible to do 150 miles journeys on single charge on XPower in summer/winter? - Average speed between 55-60 mph with Eco setting and sensible driving mostly (with some XPower moment 😄)

I know XPower is more for thrill but I want honest feedback from owners if it can be practical also. Would love your feedback on XPower performance and handling/day to day driving. Thanks in advance.
I had this dilemma too ! The Trophy that claims 320 miles range OR the x power, I chose x power.
JohnnyG is spot on 😎. Im experimenting with eco mode currently just as he describes. No regrets at all, beautiful car to drive with all the toys on too!
I might change the tyres in summer for ev range rated rubber (has anyone changed theirs?) . My journeys are all short causing a 2mpkwh return so Im currently driving like a granny & tweaking settings. Love the car though 🫡

I too like what you did to the brake calipers. Very tempted to swap my ZS EV for an Xpower. What's the insurance like, is there much of a hike?

Answering my own question, with my existing insurer it was £200 more, but they have a £900 excess on an x-power!! GoCompare comes up with similar price, but only £200 excess.
I had a Skoda Enyaq iv60 & paid £300 per annum fully comp with protected ncd, after shopping around Hastings offered £346 like for like for the X Power.

Hey, not sure what drives the function Auto Lane change. I used the below settings in MG Pilot and it worked for me. You may want to replicate the setting and try it.

Congrats on your purchase. Glad there is someone else who came to the same conclusion as me XD. I still think it's no brainer for X-Power for what you get and the price you pay for it (tbh for any MG4 model). You can get miles if you drive granny style and have power when you need it.

Are you getting any steering vibration or oil leak issue?

Glad you're pleased with your Xpower 😊👍. I'm still experimenting after 4 months and 2750 miles !!. Today I tried a 60 mile motorway cruise at 70mph ('ish 😉) in low regen mode and I seemed to get a slight improvement in mls/kwh compared to the high regen mode. Started completely cold (as away from home and mains) so no preheating or anything.

Thanks for the update & pics. Still nothing for me. Just to clarify, are we actually saying that the car is changing from one lane to another following the driver indicating and not having to move the steering wheel? This is what a Tesla will do with enhanced autopilot for example. When I tried on an empty road in TJA it just sat in same lane with indicator flashing and no movement.

Ok , the front of the MG4 isnt exactly aerodynamic , fake vents, front lip that jams air to no where. Love,to see aero tests.
