MG4 Software Update Thread

Same problem here. Bought car from dealer 13/01, and they said updates were all the latest.
All dealers say this. They either know they are lying or they actually believe that because the car is new it must have the latest software. Either way they should not be believed.

My dealer told me the car had had all the latest software downloaded on to it the morning I collected it. It was (thankfully) on R13, even though the dreaded R16 was already an issue by then. I sort of hoped they'd done it on purpose because R16 was a lemon, but I really don't know.

Hi. I got my Luxury a few days ago with R30. I like that I can use the left star as a shortcut to the 360 cam. The R40/R46 also supports this feature?

Is there a list somewhere with the latest updates and version numbers to check against? Newbie question, sorry.

I'm very traditional, and am still unclear as to why one needs to update software, My 16 yr old Tiguan Sport even when plugged into their server (ODIS - which I still have full access to including updating service records), so why does my MG4 need updating? - It works as it should for the last 19,000 miles - with no issues - otherwise i would have taken it back before now (as far as i can see no servicing is needed, for the 7 year battery warranty?)

R46 came out in July 2023. So that's now 7 months without a new update for the Trophy.

I don't believe all bugs are fixed?

Does this mean that there will be no further updates?

Many people have been experiencing bugs, which is why they want updates. Modern EVs are very heavily software-driven so the scope of problems / bugs is much greater and the pressures to ship the car in a competitive market mean many makers (including VW, who have had big issues with this) release a car with lots of software bugs onto the market.

Older cars are trivially simple by comparison, they were not designed to be able to take updates, so makers had to ensure everything worked first time or they'd have an expensive hardware replacement warranty programme.

Servicing of an MG4 is required to:
  • Maintain the included ("free") AA recovery membership.
  • Maintain the warranty, including corrosion protection.
  • Undertake various inspections of the drivetrain.
  • Replace fluids and filters.
  • Update software including the dozens of car modules that are upgradeable.

For a while in the earlier part of last year it seemed as if the Trophy was getting all the attention and all the updates and people with SEs were feeling a bit left out. But then R33 for the SE appeared and seems to have addressed a large number of the concerns people had.

I think they spent some time catching up on the SE, but they'll probably move back to the Trophy, as the rumours of an R58 seem to bear out.

An electronic vehicle that doesn't recieve updates after one year would be laughable at best. You can still get updates for nine year old Teslas. What's the point in activating updates over the air later if they would stop releasing updates?

My Trophy is due its first service at the end of next month and I've been putting up with several niggling bugs in the hope that they will be addressed when it is serviced. At the moment, it's looking as though I'm going to be disappointed.
One I don't think I've seen mentioned here (but I'm reminded by the recent mention of the car decelerating when about to overtake) is the LKA functions trying to take over when you're actually indicating and manoeuvring. I also didn't appreciate my tyres being kerbed for me last week when a car approached on the other side of the road. Some safety aid!

Deceleration while overtaking is caused by ACC. Whay you are describing with LKA is not something I recall. But I never use ELK anymore so there is no pulling on my wheel anymore.
That said, sometimes when you manouvre more or less simultaneously when activating the indicator, you may in fact be a tiny bit "too late".

R58 is only for infotainment right? So will we get a quick option to disable ELK? How about maps? Mine is at least 18 months old by the time R58 may arrive.

Besides, many of us will not see it very soon if they had their car serviced shortly before a release.

I don't know. But if there was something you were complaining about that was fixed by a known update, you might get the dealer to agree to do it between services. I think.

From what I have heard about the so-called "quick" option to disable LKA on the SE's R33, I am not very impressed. I would think you might get the same thing though. I have no idea about maps, because the SE doesn't have them at all and I'm a major convert to Android Auto.

The dropdown option for turning off LKA (the icon is called LDP On in that menu) is very easy to use. Use your fingers to anchor your hand (after pulling down the menu), tap the option with your thumb, tap the Confirm with your thumb, then swipe the menu back up. Far easier than delving through the usual menus, and muscle memory will have you putting your hand/thumb in the right place quite quickly. :)

I've a system update available on mine dated 6/10/22. But not sure about updating....
Though I doubt it, wonder is there anywhere with the release notes for these updates

There has been dozens (literally) of updates since October 22. Your dealer should do them FOC.

I'm at my local MG dealer now - apparently the 'campaigns' are released by chassis number rather than model so while some identical cars have had updates others won't. They understand my concerns but they won't risk updating my car unless MG release the update and tell them to do it. They've had cars in for 5 months before because they've run an update and it's bricked the system. MG have a massive backlog of bricked systems due to lack of staff. They said they'd rather have the car working with some faults than not working at all.

So you did not get any updates. I do understand the chassis number thing though. A first half 2023 Luxury came with different software than the latest ones.

Jaká je nejnovější dostupná aktualizace pro MG4 Luxury?
Translates to "What is the latest available update for MG4 Luxury?"

Answer is 1300R46 (currently), but there are rumours of 1300R58 (or R59 - not sure) just around the corner.

Google translates this to: "Odpověď je 1300R46 (aktuálně), ale hned za rohem se mluví o 1300R58 (nebo R59 - nejsem si jistý).".
