I wasn't posting the link to try to "change" anything, nor was I intending to say that anyone was right or wrong.

    Consumption

My wife's 145 mile round journey commute to Birmingham yesterday, largely on motorway standard roads consumed 41.87kw = 3.46kw per mile. Not at all bad given cold temperatures of max 4 deg celcius. woops - I did of course mean 3.46 miles per kw!!

Let's do the maths simply. My Toyota Auris does 52 miles to the gallon. So that is 11.44 miles (52/4.546) to the litre at, say, £1.40 a litre (in fact, my wife has just filled up for £1.38). For me that is the benchmark I have to pay attention to, not one based on a more thirsty gas guzzler...

    PodPoint at Lidl

In over forty years of driving, I've never been mug enough to fill up at motorway service stations. My maths are not very far out. I'm basing the calcs on our Toyota Auris which we run alongside out MG4. The Auris delivers 52 mpg. At £1.40 (cheaper than your £1.50 but very representative of...

I'm outraged by the high public charging prices. They should be lower than petrol prices in order to incentivise a shift away from fossil fuels. Instead, they are equivalent to around £2.70 per litre. Disgraceful.

What's the effect on battery life of regularly charging to 100%

Yes I think that is what I said I was planning to do once we're satisfied that there'll be sufficient margin after the test at 100% and 70mph journey tomorrow.

What's the effect on battery life of regularly charging to 100%

Just checked and we are doing all those things recommended. Looking again at the energy consumption, it was 3.8 miles per kw today but, as I state, that was with some driving speed compromises (but no idea how much she slowed down). Anyway, all very useful and the plan is to charge to 100%...

What's the effect on battery life of regularly charging to 100%

Thanks for that reply. I think she is doing all those things but I will doublecheck re point about eco being set on AC. For the work commutes we will charge to 100% and see what the margin of safety is in lower temperatures. If it seems safe to do so, is there any merit in setting the max...

What's the effect on battery life of regularly charging to 100%

My wife has a 145 mile round journey for her three days a week commute in an MG Trophy LR (61kw battery). We have been charging to 80% in line with recommendations to preserve battery life. But now that winter is coming she is experiencing range anxiety. I say don't worry but that is easy for me...

    EV charging prices

EV 'on the road' charging prices are a scandal. Surely the policy goal should be to incentivise EVs vs petrol/diesel yet charging prices are roughly the equivalent of about £2.70 a litre. They need to be down around 40p a KW. I suspect many potential EV owners don't fully realise the cost of 'on...

All this talk about LKA. I'm worried...

It is probably a useful feature on motorways and A roads but I find it positively dangerous on local Nottinghamshire country roads. I turn it off but, if I forget, I run the danger of being thrown into the potholes on the edge of our narrow country lanes. It depends on what roads you are on...

Advice about buying a charging cable

The dealer only provided granny charging lead with our MG4 and resisted my attempts to negotiate a type 2 as part of the deal. But going back to the main question in my OP, it seems like all fast DC charging station have their own connectors, but the slower type 2 AC stations tend to be a mix of...

Advice about buying a charging cable

We've had our MG Trophy for three months now. We've always charged at home with a tethered charger so haven't ever gone to the expense of buying any cables for if and when we need to charge on the road. Indeed, the price of public charging (often 79p per Kw fast charge) means we use our old...

    Solar and house battery installation

All good points. There is no right or wrong here. The important thing is for people to gather good information and make a decision based on what they think is sensible for them personally to spend. In my case, I wanted to limit my investment to solar only and have a clear basis for a 6-9 year...

    Solar and house battery installation

I have a Zappi 2 charger and have just added 6.48kwp of solar panels on my garage to add to the 2kwp on my house. I judged the cost of also having battery storage was prohibitive. I was also mindful of the potentially limited 10 year charge/discharge life of batteries. Octopus Outgoing fixed...

    Solar + Zappi + MG4 = 😊

Diggsy - yes, I could do that if the VAT concession is still on offer if I added a battery(ies) in the future. The installation I am planning is nil vat as I am having 20 extra panels. Like the original poster (fifer), my goal is to use as little grid import as possible. Having built a passive...

    Solar + Zappi + MG4 = 😊

Interesting stuff. I have 2kwp solar pv on the house at the moment. I have just accepted a quote to put an additional 8.1kwp on the garage to provide 10.1kwp. I have a zappi 2 charger and am on the Octopus Agile energy tariff. I am very happy with the Zappi 2 so far. With my three phase supply I...

    MG4 Trophy Range Test

Here's a more accurate update based on actual mileage and charging from my wife's first long MG4 Trophy commute from yesterday with 172 round trip motorway driving. The miles per km was 3.7 (not the 3.4 estimated mid-trip yesterday).
