Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Well it would seem from these very helpful replies - thank you all - that, given our very basic electricity supply system over here with nothing other than Economy 7 to offer savings, a charger that can be set to come on at a predetermined time each night is probably sufficient for my needs. It...

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Thanks again. I’m still at the planning stage so can’t test anything yet but it was certainly my understanding from reading the threads about software updates that timed charging was now possible.

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Many thanks. It doesn’t sound promising, I have to say but I must admit I thought that timed charging was now possible with the ZS EV after one of the software upgrades last year?

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Good advice, Iain, many thanks. Over here in 'Norn Iron' local contractors are plentiful, but whether they know about EV chargers remains to be seen. But a good approach.

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Thanks. I’d read that when MG provided the charger they used Rolec but I see mixed reviews on them.

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Many thanks. At the moment I don’t have any plans to go solar.

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Good point about the wiring but we’re aiming for a new build, or relatively new at least, so hopefully the wiring should be ok. What benefit is there to having a 4G connection rather than just wi-fi? I can’t imagine needing to connect to the charger from afar. Edit: On reflection perhaps the...

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Thanks, guys, just the sort of information I’m looking for. Very helpful.

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Thanks for this speedy reply. I should have said that I’d looked at Rightcharge but all it seems to do is list all the features of the various chargers but is no help in trying to decide which features are 'essential' and which are just 'desirable'. Hence my query about what criteria people used...

Home chargers - which one did you buy, and why?

Hopeful that I’ll be joining the world of EV motoring in the coming months as we've finally made the decision to move house and downsize, I’d like to know what were the criteria that people used when choosing their home charger. I should say that being in Northern Ireland, our electricity...

A first drive in an EV - an MG ZS EV of course!

'Nippy' doesn’t come close to it! 😀

A first drive in an EV - an MG ZS EV of course!

My point was about the startling acceleration at lowish speeds, and whether it was replicated at higher speeds, say over 50 mph, and not about maximum speeds.

A first drive in an EV - an MG ZS EV of course!

I was meaning that the sort of startling acceleration available when you floor the throttle at, say, 25 mph is possibly not present if you do the same at 55 mph. I didn’t actually try.

A first drive in an EV - an MG ZS EV of course!

An MG Car Club friend was kind enough to let me try his ZS EV today and my goodness what a splendid car. Having driven automatic cars for many years the basic sensation - select drive and move off - is essentially the same and with one of my cars having been a 240 bhp turbo Volvo I’m well used...

I drove my ICE car today .......

Plus, if need be, it would make a decent tow car, the one failing of EVs

    Why RFID cards?

If a hotel can authorise your card when you check in and charge you when you check out I can’t see that an hour or so at a charge point would be an issue. And the amount involved is trivial compared to filling a tank with petrol or diesel. At Tesco you get authorisation for £99 provided you’ve...

    Why RFID cards?

Yes, I’m inclined to agree. What is it they say about Google and Farcebook etc., if something is free, then you’re probably the product!
  19. Simon J

    Why RFID cards?

Indeed, there’s only one supplier here - ESB Ireland - and at the moment charging is free if you can find one that works. But that still doesn’t explain why they need a card at all. We don’t need to have a Tesco Club Card in order to buy their petrol or diesel.
