charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

    First Long Journey

Well I’m home now but it was hell, I spent ages planning a route to pick my daughter up from university in York. I have a ZS EV Mk1, I’ve done over 17,500 miles and I charge mainly at home on 7kw. So I planned a route using Tesla chargers and checked with Tesla on the app and over the phone. So...

    MG4 doesn’t always charge… why?

My MG4 is a year old and I bought it new. I have an ohme home pro which I use to charge the car overnight. Occasionally I set the ohme app up for an overnight charge, plug the car in, but in the morning the car hasn’t charged. Nothing has happened! Has anyone else experienced this and...
  6. Ohme charging issue with HS Phev

I've got an Ohme charger, but it will not charge my MG HS PHEV. The charge history, on checking the OCPP statuses (communication between the car and the charger), I noticed the car appears to have gone into a faulted state called 'SuspendedEV'. This means that even though Ohme was scheduling and...

My MG ZS used to be able to charge on rapid chargers, but now it spits it out after 30 seconds charging. It only seems to work on the slower chargers 22kWh and below. ITALY AND BACK

I have just returned from a trip to Italy, a month near Venice. So I have covered approx 2,500 miles. I had one major problem which I will save to the end because I believe it was the fault of the dealer not the car. The MG4 drove beautifully, extremely smoothly and gave me almost no cause for...

    Charger trips out during charging

I acquire my MG4 SE LR today and giving its first charge at home - it keeps tripping out whilst charging - the car started at 33% it is now 55% and has tripped the charger 4 times, never on plugging and I haven't had the patience to wait to find out when it does. Suspect the RCB in the charger...

Which plug is fitted to the supplied charging lead?

My wife's MG5 Motability car came without a charging lead, although it did have a granny charger in the boot. MG4 Xpower charging cables

Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and just wanted to ask a question. We collected our MG4 Xpower 2 weeks ago and do love the car. Charging novice

Since buying my MG4 XPower in September 23, I have only ever charged it at home in the garage on the "granny" charger (most journeys are local so a 20-80% charge overnight has been sufficient). When I charge overnight in the garage the car is obviously locked. Now, planning to go away, I will...

So we’re on a long road trip through France at the moment. Everything has been brilliant with the car and rapid charging is much much cheaper than in the UK. Today, however, panic set in when all of a sudden the car wouldn’t charge from any AC or DC charger. I eventually worked out that the...
