satnav
A satellite navigation or satnav system is a system that uses satellites to provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning. It allows satellite navigation devices to determine their location (longitude, latitude, and altitude/elevation) to high precision (within a few centimetres to metres) using time signals transmitted along a line of sight by radio from satellites. The system can be used for providing position, navigation or for tracking the position of something fitted with a receiver (satellite tracking). The signals also allow the electronic receiver to calculate the current local time to a high precision, which allows time synchronisation. These uses are collectively known as Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT). Satnav systems operate independently of any telephonic or internet reception, though these technologies can enhance the usefulness of the positioning information generated.
A satellite navigation system with global coverage may be termed a global navigation satellite system (GNSS). As of September 2020, the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS), Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, and the European Union's Galileo are fully operational GNSSs. Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) is a (US) GPS satellite-based augmentation system to enhance the accuracy of GPS, with satellite navigation independent of GPS scheduled for 2023. The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) plans to expand to a global version in the long term.Global coverage for each system is generally achieved by a satellite constellation of 18–30 medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites spread between several orbital planes. The actual systems vary, but all use orbital inclinations of >50° and orbital periods of roughly twelve hours (at an altitude of about 20,000 kilometres or 12,000 miles).
Am very impressed with the inbuilt satnav in the Trophy. I use it all the time rather than worrying about Carplay dropping out and losing Waze or Google Maps. It’s significantly better than my old stick-on Garmin
Good points:
Voice is natural and clear (but you cannot select a different voice)...
Couple of things on the SatNav:
Does it have access to traffic information and can it reroute you to avoid traffic jams and road closures?
Despite being set to fastest roads, the MG satnav constantly asks me to take very narrow roads, sometimes roads that are blocked (including on one occasion...
Just purchased an MG ZS EV Trophy connect. Whilst the sat Nav will locate a route and give you options and will let you select, one you start to drive the map doesn’t follow the car. Am I doing something wrong?
Not sure what I've done but before when using Built in SatNav or now with the AAWireless setup the radio sound muted when guidance was given, today the radio did not mute.
There must be an adjustment available somehwere in settings but I cannot find it!
My Facelift SR ZS satnav has a mind of its own it goes into no man's land for miles on a journey tryed to turn off dead reckoning but no provision to do it , any ideas.
Help with Naviextras Satnav update needed please:-
Our 2020 MG HS PHEV’s maps are showing their age so I thought I’d look in to updating the maps if it was at no/low cost. I read around and saw some comments that ‘2 updates were free for MGs’ so I had a go…
When I ran the Toolbox with a...
I would appreciate any views or comments on the MG ZS EV (2022) satnav display. Mine works fine and I'm generally pleased with it. I just find the very dark, almost black background on the screen very bland and not as visually appealing as say, for instance, Google maps, Sygic or Waze. The...
Could any body assist with the following question please.
I do not want to use the USB on the mirror unit as mine will work when stationery so protecting me against issues whilst parked. As the unit needs a switched and non switched supply.
Chosen cigarette socket as switched.
My question is...
Even though I don't use it. I thought I'd update the built-in SatNav. I'm using a 16Gb Cruzer Blade USB stick, formatted as FAT32. I have registered an account with Naviextras and selected MG5 EV, and the Toolbox says I have an "MG touch MG5 EV - Europe".
So I've done the bit on the car to put...
I have a month old MG5 LR and am trying to personalise the satnav. My aim is to activate the audio and visual warnings for locations such as schools, hospitals etc. Although I have found my way through the settings menu, and then pressed 'close' the satnav refuses to co-operate. I spent a happy...
I thought that that the 360 view at corners was good, until we came across a roundabout where you needed to be in the right lane way ahead of your exit. It was a 4/5 lane circuit.
Started off okay with the AAWireless SatNav doing a great job until the spoken directions stopped as did the mapping...
Morning all,
I collected a new Black Trophy Connect SR from the boys in Chorley at the tail end of last week. Drove it back to Swansea and using ABRP made one 20 minute stop to charge at a rapid in Ludlow. No problems at all. Arrived home with 23% remaining. Great!
I am finding the car...
Just received my ZS LR Trophy. Seems fine apart from the Satnav which will not track or update. It logs the position when the car starts and will map the route just doesn't track when moving.
Am I missing an option to start navigation?
Hi everyone,
Just got a new ZS EV and it’s great, but there is a problem with the car’s navigation system. I enter a destination and press go, but the system does not track the car’s position. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help.
Anyone had it where you fire in a postcode find the location and off you go to find out the map doesn’t update from the gps?
Like it knows where I am so the gps works fine. Says turn left and doesn’t ever move on?
Tried rebooting it and did he haw
Guess car pays handy
Hi all, maybe someone can help me? I have a new mg5 LR (5 days old). Is it normal that if I make a call I cannot click on the satnav or view it if it's on or go back to the home screen
I have tried android auto with better results but when I get a call it won't come out on the car speakers...
I have had my ZS EV Exclusive for around 8 months now and wondered if anyone can get the Satnav to show charging stations on route? I have seen a few posts showing screenshots of Satnavs with the charge points on them but I never bothered to look to see if the thread was about the ZS as I had no...
As we are in Q4 2021, I was wondering what the Satnav mapping date is for those who have recently taken delivery of their HS PHEV? And for those who have had theirs for a while, have you or are you able to update your mapping or are stuck with out of date maps?
As far as I know the SATNAV does not have live traffic information. But on that basis what triggers it to offer alternative routes whilst you are driving? As we all know instructions on it's use are somewhat limited in the manual and resorting to pressing buttons seems to generate all sorts of...
I cannot find the option to enable Live Traffic in the OEM SatNav, is it not available in the HS?
I know I can use Android Auto but wanted a backup option.
