HS PHEV
I thought a new thread just about software versions, successes and issues might be a useful place of reference.

My 2025 HS Trophy PHEV software level from new (October 2024) was at 'R46.

I presume some Over The Air update scuppered the road sign recognition and associated cruise control, a couple of months ago.

Up until then everything was fine apart from the first service appearing on the screen as being due at 6k miles.

Evan Halshaw in Banbury are now an MG dealer and have been brilliant. When I bought my HS, they were Citroen and I didn’t exactly gel with the after sales side of the supplying dealer. All the staff at Banbury MG are very friendly, informative and not at all patronising. Other dealers could take lessons from them on customer service!

My car went in for a software update yesterday – that ended up with the road sign recognition and cruise control working, but the ‘star keys’ stopped functioning. Banbury MG then contacted MG and got the next software version (as I understand it) and loaded that this afternoon. Now everything works and the 'next service due' is showing at the correct 15k miles.

Current software version is now 'R62

I now have a fully functioning HS again – happy days and thank you Banbury MG!

when it had the failed favourites or * issue do you know what version it was then ? pickinmg mine up next Saturday so want to make sure the dealership has the 62 version installed.

Mine had been at R46 since new and up until the fix this week.

When the star keys stopped working the SW version number didn’t change.

I’m guessing it was caused by an Over The Air update seeing as one day the speed limit recognition/cruise control worked and the next morning they didn’t. Others seem to have had the same.

Perhaps OTA updates (if it was - coincidence if not) don’t update the main SW version reference.

Banbury MG said they had to apply to MG for a SW update(s) to my specific car (and another they had in for the same update(s)) - it’s not something they can do off their own back.

I’d ask your dealer to check what SW version the car has - on the home screen, swipe to the main menu > settings > system. If it’s not R62, ask them to check everything works as it should then, if not, ask them to update to the latest SW version.

Don’t be fobbed off! Hopefully, you’ll have a good dealer like I now have!

Any idea how to update the Maps - like your screenshot mine is using 2023 maps and MG say to update via Naviextras but that doesn't seem to be supported.

No idea, sorry - I don't tend to use the MG maps, as I use Apple Car Play and Google for the nav functions.

My version is R10. However the versioning scheme looks different. Any idea whether there is a new version?

Entertainment system version is seperate from controllers version I believe. I also had problems with speed recognition, after a visit to the service they said they updated it and the problem was solved.

However entertainment system version stayed the same. Any ideas?

Perhaps the switch positions are reversed in LHD markets? Almost certainly the software levels may be different?

My vehicle has the version r10. My dealer says there is no update.
I know that R21 is used in gasoline models in our country. They do not bring updates to hybrid models.

My car was delivered with version R55 of the software, the star keys work but the cruise control doesn't. It's in to the local dealer today for a 'diagnostic check'. I hope that doesn't mean it needs another visit to update the software.

software updates - can you download them to a usb drive and then install these yourself or does it have to go to the dealer to do it ? got loads of USB drives etc. just need to know if you can self install or does it really need to go to the dealer ?

so did you get on latest version and if so what is it and are all bugs fixed ?
I am running V49 of the software and touchwood do not seem to have any issues can set cruise control - though I hate the adaptive cruise control starts braking / slowing when I am about 50 yards behind the car in front really overzealous a simple warning would be fine and only adjust speed when it gets to about 10 yards unless obviously closing massively closely,
At V49 cruise control works, star buttons work so wondering if its worth a 120 mile round trip and day off work to get to latest version if there is no difference between my version and V62 or whatever latest is ?

From what I read, the only bugs are:
  • road sign recognition
  • cruise control
  • 'star keys’
If all of those were working for me, then (personally) I would not update my car.

For the record, my car is R46 and it all works OK except 'star keys'. No biggie, but I would like to get it fixed at my next service so that I can program EV<=>MEV swapping with a simple shortcut.

By the way, I agree about the adaptive cruise control being overzealous. It slows me down far too far away from the car in front on a motorway, so I tend to not use it.

mine is on V49. all 3 of those elements work so I might leave it for now until it gets its annual service. wouldn't mind, I much prefer using cruise control, but do not need it to auto slow down etc. as I am awake when using it !!

Just a new realization from my side. We are all talking about "entertainment system version"
Is it possible that they have another firmware that manages the actual driving functions like sensors and etc. which is completely different from entertainment?

I phoned the dealer yesterday, and got put through to the service manager who was condescending enough for me to reconsider if buying the car was for me or not.

He kept saying things like 'the car has lots of software in it, which one specifically are you talking about' and 'I am not saying you don't know what you're talking about, but the people you are getting your information from don't.'

I just asked for assurance the car will function as advertised when I collect, and if it doesn't we will have to have a conversation.

exactly like you say everyone mentions the one which is infotainment version unless we should be looking somewhere else for the software which controls the favourite buttons etc.

also say to him well why the fudge don't MG publish any bloody information about software versions for cars then so we actually do have a clue ? surely it isn't that hard for them to have a release notes and bug fixes listing for all software versions as they would know exactly what they have fixed - this is standard practice for all software vendors etc. ?
