Hi There

I'm new to this forum and new to MG ownership. I recently took delivery of a pre registered HS PHEV Trophy and in the main am very happy with it except its now been in the dealer for nearly a week! There are a number of issues which all look software related. Has anybody else experienced these?

1. The front parking sensors do not trigger when you drive straight into a parking space or go to park close to an object in front of you. They only come on when you put the car into reverse??? Not much use when your drive in forward. 360 camera works looking forward but you would expect the sensors to operate and sound also.

2. The fuel gauge is wildly inaccurate. I filled the car up and it told me I had a fuel range of 895 miles on one tank! Great efficiency for £60 but obviously total rubbish. The gauge goes up and down sometimes showing 400+ , the next day 350 (despite the fact that I was running the car on battery only)

3. The Star * buttons on the steering wheel that you are supposed to be able to set to a number of different functions of your choosing will not store the function to the wheel.

4. The Blue tooth connection to my phone constantly asked for a new pairing code. Admittedly I installed a wire less connector into the USB A so as not to constantly have to plug the phone in to have Android Auto but it shouldn't require a new pair code constantly.

Any takers out there for this raft of issues?

The front parking sensors are as you find them - switch them on by going into reverse momentarily or via the screen. Bit of a pain but there you have it - they all do it this way so not actually a defect.

The 'fuel gauge' you talk of is an estimated range indicator (same as for the battery). It varies based on amount of fuel and recent driving 'style'. I haven't seen the figure you have but mine varies accordingly. I don't pay any attention to the blue horizontal line 'gauge', so couldn't tell you if that's more accurate regarding actual fuel quantity.

My 'star' buttons have always worked (car was new October 2024) but some later cars had another (later) software version, where the star buttons ceased to function.

My car goes in on Wednesday to, hopefully, have the latest software update that should restore the common (software?) issue where the car doesn't read road speed limits and the (connected to that) cruise control ceases to work. They did work fine, but I have a suspicion that the was an over the air update that killed them! My understanding is that the latest software restores those errors and the star button functionality to those that have lost it.

I can't comment on Bluetooth pairing - I plug my iPhone in for Apple Car Play and it works fine.

No doubt it's a pain not having your car but I'm surprised the dealer hasn't explained what's what. When you get it, I am sure you'll be delighted with it - I am with mine, despite the odd quirk and software issue, which most modern cars are afflicted with at some stage.

Hi Aerofurb

Thanks for your reply. It's good that I'm not the only one with these issues so it means MG should pull the stops to rectify them. Pity about the front sensors. Seems ridiculous that they don't trigger when approaching a stationary object to stop you from hit it. I might resort yo plugging in the phone. At present the dealer is struggling to get a software update into the car so it's a waiting game.

Hi Paul, item 1 as already mentioned is by design but still annoying, you can also swipe down the home screen to turn on sensors when parking forwards.
Likewise with Aerofurb, the petrol range varies wildly, seems to use current mpg to project a range but that's constantly changing, so I ignore it and use the app to see what % the tank has then extrapolate by my typical 40-45mpg. The battery though seems more steady and the 75 miles is so far looking pretty reliable (winter might be a different matter!). Mine too is a Oct/Nov 24 model and the * keys work fine (software version ends in R46), I believe R62 is available and the * key issue has been fixed so hopefully your dealer will apply that one.
Despite the niggles though I love the car, and hopefully you will too once you get it back.
