Active Cruise & cornering, is this an issue?

I use the SNOW mode on long trips as it has low regen braking and it does slow on some sharper bends. Not a concern for me.

When I first got the car back in Sept I found the corner slowing on ACC highly annoying particularly as I live in the country where most road travel is at 100-110kph. Any slight turn would cause a 10-20kph drop which would not only annoy me but must have annoyed anyone following. The car went in for service about 2 months back and was kept overnight to update a heap of software upgrades. When I got it back the problem was gone. It now requires an exceptional turn to activate the slowing such that you would be losing control of the vehicle at the speed. The other difference was the 5k and 1k adjustments on the ACC set speed were reversed. The flick and hold now adjusts by 5k and the flick adjusts by 1k.

On my mg4 I use it around town. If there is a band use the accelerator to let it know that it is ok and it picks up and continues when straight again

Absolutely the way I used the MG ACC and MG Pilot even around county lanes as it takes a lot of effort out of the steering. The slow down at bends is intentional and is meant to prevent overspeeding through the bend, but it isn't the way you would naturally drive and power through a bend and this is why I would always give it a little gentle right foot through the bend. The MG system isn't Full-Self-Driving even on Auto, sorry MG, Pilot as it can't see around the bend and is only looking forward.

On the MG4 I prefer to set the speed limiter instead and just drive with a heavy right foot, it doesn’t slow down on bends that way.

How do you set the limiter, on my car, if you twist the CC stalk, the distance bars reduce at the screen top to reduce the following distance (found this while looking for limiter)

On the MG4 it’s on the infotainment screen, but it resets to Off every time you start the car.

I have raised the issue of slowing unnecessarily on corners with MG via my Dealership, apparently there are a lot of complaints. It is dangerous because it slows you down unexpectedly from the perspective of the vehicle behind which then has a higher risk of crashing in to you. It works okay on country lanes, where you are not supposed to use ACC, which is funny really, and it is a pest on roads such as the A3 south of Guildford where it slows on every other bend in the road where there is absolutely no need to slow down. Like all these "assists" there needs to be the ability to switch it off, and in this case separately from the ACC.

As you rightly noted, it is an assist feature. At all times the driver should be attentive and be prepared to override the system. If the car slows more than I would, I just touch the accelerator.

It just comes on randomly, even when I am steering.

Usually on a long, shallow curve for me on the M5 from J21 to J22. It expects some wheel movement and gets tetchy when it doesn't happen.

Mine only does if I’m only gently touching the wheel. The car expects you to resist its steering and to put your own small adjustments in - if it doesn’t detect them then it assumes you aren’t holding the wheel.

FINALLY, I got an update last week to the Front Camera and Radar software and it fixed it. What a difference, the slowing hardly kicks in at all and no longer kicks in on roads like the M6 and A3 where it was completely unnecessary. The update also fixed another issue which was the ACC "nudge button" on the steering wheel. I could not get it to nudge up and down in increments of 1, only 5, now it does increments on 1 and you hold it momentarily to get increments for 5.

My dealer is MG Richmond Portsmouth and they have been brilliant at following up bugs and issues with MG so but thanks to them.

That cornering thing is so annoying, nice to hear it will be sorted on an update.
Does the update also fix the “hands on wheel” issue ? When using ACC it randomly brakes sharply with this symbol. Not sure what people behind me must think when travelling 50mph and I suddenly jam my brakes on.

Second, it could frustrate the drivers behind you if ever time you came to a mild bend in the road your car slowed down by 5 to 10mph. Frustrated drivers are riskier drivers. Now that my vehicle drives at a steady speed on these roads I have much less issue with drivers driving up the back of the vehicle and I can concentrate on the manoeuvre rather than the speedo. So yes, unnecessary slowing into corners on roads such as the M6 and the A3 is a hazard and I am well glad its fixed.

Does the update also fix the “hands on wheel” issue ? When using ACC it randomly brakes sharply with this symbol. Not sure what people behind me must think when travelling 50mph and I suddenly jam my brakes on.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fix that issue, which is where the ACC disengages when it is confused, it did it to me this morning. But after multiple updates I have noticed it happens less often.

I have not experienced the overtake issue you describe.

More fundamentally, the real safety issues are

• phantom braking
• lane guidance steering into the path of oncoming vehicles
• erratic steering guidance when following the road
• auto dip beam constantly flashing oncoming drivers

Not an exhaustive list. But compared to slowing down in corners which can be corrected by easing more throttle on (without cancelling the cruise) these are more critical.
