HS PHEV
Thinking of purchasing a new HS PHEV, can any owners of the NEW version offer any advice on whether to go ahead and buy one or stay clear. Already had test drive and was impressed, I now have to phone my insurers to enquire as to what the increase will be. Have got at the moment the ZS Hybrid Plus which I purchased new in october and when I eventually got used to driving a hybrid was impressed. Your advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. Eric.

See my note re radiator coolant leak.
I've had a brand new 2025 hs phev, for 3 months. Generally been impressed until it lost all power without warning on M25 on Friday at 4.30pm, and lost all coolant from the radiator. radiator design is quite poor as it's relatively low with no protection in front of it. I'll see how we get on as currently waiting for recovery from home to the garage.

Also note, having been in an emergency and stranded on the m25, the sos button did not do anything when pressed other than light up, also no high temp warning on the car.

That's worrying. keep us updated on cause / fix.

Went for another test drive this morning so my wife could have a drive, she to was impressed so got in touch with our insurers and was amazed that it will only be extra £43 on top of the £415 for our ZS hybrid plus. So have gone ahead and placed an order. I already have a wall charger from my days with the old nissan leaf but it's a type 1 so will get an adaptor off Amazon.

I have no problem recommending the HS Phev. I test-drove the Volvo 40 and the Kia Sportage. The HS was more comfortable and went 74 miles on the battery, which we use most of the time. We have had the car for 4 months and are still happy. OK, more physical buttons would have been better, I can live with that. 😁

Got mine 3 weeks ago. Apart from very cheap plastics that can easily be scratched, I have no concerns whatsoever. Drives very well (better than the CRV I used as a trade in) and the 75 mile ev range is easily achievable, I can commute to work every week without using petrol. Just battling at the moment with keep using the granny charger or install a proper one.
Moving to a night tarif is a no go, unless i d move most of my home electricity consumption overnight and realistically, that is not going to happen.

Also ask the dealership to update the software on your car ahead of the pick up (should be R62) they won't be able to do this on pick up day.

Thanks very much for your advice, I shall give them a ring tomorrow and ask them to make sure the software is up to date and what version it is, I don't think it will be far off ready. I have had a Sparky check my old type 1 charger and he has confirmed it's just a straight swap to a 7kw tethered.

I asked my dealer to ensure all the software was up to date (at least R62) which they said they would do but since picking up the car last week have found it's only running version R55. When I queried it with them they said updating the software on the vehicle can mean connecting up to their diagnostic computer for up to 8 hours. I feel I'm being fed a line. They also said a new release was due to drop on 21st July?
On a general note, I'm loving the car, except for the headrest position which is annoying to say the least.

Got in touch with dealer and asked if it would be up to date with the software and he confirmed it will be done as part of the P.D.I. but I will be checking before I drive it away. May I ask if I need to obtain an RFID card for public charging? Only thinking about when doing any long distances which will be few and far between so probably contact less would be ok? I'm having my charger changed over this week. Collecting the car next Tuesday morning, will send some piccys.

Probably more cost-effective to run on petrol until you're able to charge at home/your destination. That's the beauty of a hybrid. Having said that, I did get an Electroverse card, just in case, but I don't envisage using it much, if at all.

I see you're in Greater Manchester. Are you buying from RRG in Stockport, as I did, or did you go to Hyde, Knutsford or Salford? If you'd rather not say, I understand.

I'm getting it from MG in Rochdale same as I got the very first ZS hybrid plus of which I hated it at first but as you can see what I feel now as I'm upgrading.

I obtained a (free for the first month) BP Pulse subscription which gave me a cheaper unit rate (44p from memory) and this bought me the time to obtain a wallbox. I then cancelled the subscription. The RFID card still works but without the monthly payment the unit rate is around 66p per unit.
I'm currently in France where I am using the Izivia system at 41p per unit (depending on exchange rate) online with my bank card

Well folks it's been confirmed this morning on BBC news that the £3750 grant toward electric cars that coming WILL NOT APPLY TO CHINESE MANUFACTURED CARS, who's upset the Chinese!!!

I have the MG HS PHEV TROPHY. I tow a 1250klo caravan and just come back from a 2200 mile holiday in the south of France. The car was excellent. I had a 230 mile range with the caravan as opposed to about 120 miles on our 2022 HS and the car pulls as well as our Hyundai 2.2 Santa Fe used to. I was getting around 30 mpg towing and charged the car every night so when not towing mpg is difficult to say as you get around 75 miles on battery. The engine when it does kick in is impossible to tell and charges the battery as priority and only propels the car if more power is needed. I love the car. And suits us perfectly 75 miles on battery alone as we charge to full every night on Octopus we get 75 miles for £2.20. I put very little petrol in and very rarely. Hopes this helps
