HS PHEV
Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and excited to join the community. I’m getting a brand‑new MG HS PHEV Trophy, and if all goes well, the delivery should be this weekend or early next week.

I have a question regarding the MG service plan. I plan to keep the car for 4–5 years, and I’m buying it outright (no finance). When I checked the MG service calculator for 4 years / up to 10k miles per year, it gave me a total cost of £1,985.74, which includes one MOT.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Year 1 – 15k / 1‑year service: £193.24
  • Year 2 – 30k / 2‑year service: £406.15
  • Year 3 – 45k / 3‑year service: £374.92
  • Year 4 – 60k / 4‑year service: £901.38
  • Total: £1,985.74 (including one MOT)
My question is: Is it worth buying the MG service plan, or is it cheaper to just pay for yearly services as needed? I’d really appreciate advice from anyone with experience owning or servicing an MG HS PHEV.

Thanks very much,

Mani

Hi Mani, welcome to the forum.
Here's a link to a previous thread from February which also includes a link to a similar discussion from 2025.
Happy reading.

Thank you BarrieG. I have asked a question. I also searched the forum to find the details about what is covered in the service plan. But i couldn't find. any idea where can i find them.
Thanks

I found that seeing as services will only go up, and you also get Full AA breakdown cover for those years we chose to have it.

I have the same car and just had first service. I have paid for three services £ 5/600 can’t remember exactly as paid for the car and services in one payment. I can say that it is a big saving but what’s really nice is turning up to collect your car after a service and not be faced with a bill.

thank you for sharing your experience. this is good to hear. I will definitely look into the service plans when i know will they will deliver my car

Hi Mani, welcome. Don't forget to register your car to get the AA cover. As long as it's serviced through MG it will be covered for the life of the car. I have the same car and you won't be disappointed just have to get used to the "bings and bongs" but they do keep you within the speed limit. Had mine since March 25 and only filled it up 4 times and that's only when we go to north wales. When you are on "auto pilot" you will probably not want to use it again but give it time it's brilliant. ENJOY.

Hi, thank you. I am enjoying my car and haven't filled the tank since getting the delivery. but the maximum drive one way was around 100 miles.
can you please help advise how can I register it with AA ? As i thought i can just call MG Assist at 08000723338

My car was bought when it was five months old and the AA membership was registered by the dealer. I have a small plastic card in the glove box which confirms the membership details. What is not clear to me is whether the MG contract only covers recovery to an MG dealer or whether carriage ro your destination is included. Perhaps somebody who has used the service can confirm.
I have a separate AA policy to cover me in Europe.

Mani, look up the following, MG road side assistance, it's all there.
