I know what you mean. It's worse in conversation as you can't edit after delivery but now I'm retired I don't care

I think one of the most embarrassing things I said was when I went round to a customer's house to quote for a rewire.

As soon as I walked into the hall, I was greeted with a burglar alarm control panel hanging off the wall and a twisted mass of cables draped everywhere, held in place by the odd nail.

As they were asking for a rewire quote, I assumed they had just moved in, so idiot here opened his big gob without moving brain into first, and said,

"Oh my God, who installed this? It's terrible!"

There was a very long, awkward pause.

"I did."

That little but of dust in the bonnet channel I'm thinking about bagging what collects in our 3 MGs and selling it as top soil ..... blows over every afternoon

Day 2, light rain overnight so now I have little sandcastles over the roof and bonnet, rather like @Black estate, although not ad bad, as well as the bonnet sandpit as @GaryMG4
