Apple maps too bright at night

Hi. I know how to adjust the brightness of the two screens, and that the software has the ability to control the brightness automatically, to account for changes in the external light level.
However, I have a problem at night with the Apple map screen being extremely bright. Does anyone else experience this, and if so have they found a way to control the brightness at night?

Is your map set to ‘night mode’? That’s what I do with google maps.

It would appear to be also a problem with the MG4.
Lots of advice there that may be of help, or not!
