Autohold activation

Now I have worked out that a firm press on the brake pedal when stopped enables Autohold I am a happy man

lol always a fair question. Had the car two weeks, found it a few days ago.

I think the dealer told me about it when he handed the car over, but it took me a few days to realise how useful it was.

To be fair my dealer did ask if I needed any info and I said nah all good lol. I was coming from a 5FL.

My other (7 year older - so lots of time to get used to it) car also has auto hold so am used to the feature, however the MG needs a LOT firmer push to engage... which is fine, but still catches me out sometimes.

It also only takes a tap on the brake pedal to release it too so keep your feet well clear of the pedals once it's engaged until you're ready to move off.

The autohold feature on my Octavia doesn't require the right kind of press on the brake pedal and is much better. It is activated any time the car comes to a complete stop and requires no thought or attention.

I am glad the MG4 has autohold but it is annoying that I have to glance to check that autohold has activated and take corrective action when required. I am very light on the pedals and need to be quite deliberate to get it to work.

Funny enough I like the fact it does not come on without a nudge from me. I don't always want the autohold on as it does slow the pull away a little. When trying to dart in to London traffic it can make a difference.

My old MG5 FL used to put the autohold on all the time, if enabled, so I ended up disabling for daily use.

I wasn’t aware of that…a nasty experience for the unwary especially if you are close to the next vehicle ahead

I find tapping the brake to release it more controllable when parking, less chance of surging forward as it sometimes may do if you press the accelerator too hard.
