Can’t locate auto high beam/dip on my IM5

I think (poor memory, me) it was on this forum that someone had mentioned that the IM5 and IM6 for the UK and Euro markets don't have the relevant sensors, nor the matrix headlights other markets seem to have.

Pretty sure that on my test drive the light pattern from the lights was pixelated and the sensors are the same one used to display cars on the driver's screen. That being said without a working OTA update system, the car we get now will be the one we're stuck with for the duration.

Only just picked up my IM5 and loving it but I’m struggling to find how to switch the auto high beam function on. Headlamps are in auto mode but I still seem to have to operate the switch between dipped and beam manually.

Can anyone out there give me a clue.

Thanks…..JSGP
30th December 2025 - statement direct from MG customer support. Auto high beam/dip function is not fitted to the UK model spec regardless of what the online manual states.

Currently no plans to provide as an OTA option either.

Hope that will stop people looking.

Happy New Year and safe motoring in your IM

There's an excellent solution here involving the human hand:
  • When no headlights visible, move stalk to high beam position.
  • When headlights appear, flick stalk back to dip beam position.

I have found this does the business in any car.
but my auto headlights were far faster than me on my Ioniq 5…..

There is no auto high beam in Norway models too. My dealer is talking about that the software exists, but has had some problems with approval in Europe. Do the asian models have this software? Dealer was hoping that those "intelligent high beam" will get approved, but don't know what is up with getting that approval.

Point is that a human is fast enough. Yes super-fast auto lights that never get it wrong are nice to have but hardly something that is essential.
Yes, they're good when they work properly, unfortunately the MG system isn't super fast and reliable all the time.

Maybe then a decent solution is on the way, they just need to improve the software. The autolights on my MG4 are utterly useless, no idea how they got approved.

The autolights on my MG4 works great, almost never have to do it manually. There has been software updates on this, and I suspect that the RHD cars isn't developed as much as the LHD cars' software.

Sounds like MG are too tight to spend money on the development side to get this working.

I would suggest people comment on their Facebook adverts about how the IM platform lacks this feature when other cars have it. Who knows they might sit up and sort it.

Maybe I need a software update then. Haven't had one for a long time now.

I very much doubt they give a toss
