Hi,
Complete newbie here. My second-hand MG5 Exclusive 115kw 61kwh EV only came with the 3-pin charger cable. So I guess I need to buy a type 2 charger cable if I come across an untethered public charger? If so, can someone recommend a make/model?
Thanks in advance.
p.s I haven't had a charger installed at home yet.

I bought mine off Amazon from EV BAZAR 3 phase type 2 to type 2. 129 pounds. Unless you mean a wall charger in which case i have a ZAPPI which hasn't given me any problems.

Hi, and welcome. I would not recommend buying a type 2 from the dealer as these usually are very expensive. There are several sites that specialise in cables for EV’s - also Amazon etc.
These forums have cables come up for sale from time to time.
this site gets good reviews.

If you use rapid DC CCS chargers then they tethered.
Most fast EVSE units will require a cable.
You will need it to be a type2 32A single phase cable, they are all pretty similar. Just get the length you require.

Hiya. The absolute best option is buying a 3phase 22KW cable from the Tesla App. I believe its £85 and though a bit heavier, it providers future proofing for any future 3 phase EV you have.

As above, sign up to the Tesla App and buy one through that. Note that as well as being heavier it's noticeably stiffer and more awkward to use.

There have been many threads about this as it has been asked many times.

Simple answer is just google type 2 cable, pick a 32amp and length to suit you (most find 5m manageable) and buy the cheapest.

I've recently purchased a used MG5 Exclusive 115kw 61kwh too. We bought a cable off Amazon (it was for around £105 for a 5m cable.

A decent 4-5m cable will cost you a £100 and above. Don't pay less than £100 (the Tesla cable is £85, but you'll need a Tesla / know someone who has a Tesla. I believe the app trick no longer works).
A good reputable brand is Mennenkes (they designed the Type 2 charging standard). EV charging cable - I believe the Tesla cable is build by them but branded Tesla.

tl;dr
  • don't pay less than £100
  • budget for a case / holder / cable ties
  • get one with caps on both ends

Excuse my frivolousness, but why did you set the limit not to buy below at £100 ? Why not £106 :)
