CarPlay and iPhone 16 / IOS 18

Has anyone got this combination working? I’ve tried wired (several different cables) and using a dongle. My wife’s iPhone 12 Mini is fine on both wired and wireless. I am only trying the USB A port.

I have an iPhone 15 / iOS 18.0.1 and it works with a usb-c to usb-a cable. It didn’t like a longer 2m one but works fine with a 1m cable

Ok thanks. I get the car listed in the CarPlay screen but when I select it it just “round and rounds” and doesn’t complete connection

Did you try the most simple solution?
Re-boot your iphone.
Most problems are gone.

Some things to try.

If you have paired your phone with Bluetooth disconnect. There is lots of info online to say Bluetooth and CarPlay don’t play nice together.

In settings / CarPlay in your phone remove the car on mine it is called SAIC 1.0+

Then plug in again and it will redo the setup.

I got CarPlay working with my IPhone 16 Pro Max, but is seems to be really sensitive about cables. I have heard the USB-A standard for the output port is open to interpretation.

I tried 6+ cables with no success. Like a lot of people I have draw loads of the things. The ones that seem to work were the cheapest ones. Maybe because they are manufactured in China!

I use a Carlinkit 5.0 bought off Aliexpress for about 30 bucks USD. My Android (Samsung) and my wifes Apple connect perfectly.

I discovered an odd anomaly with the wireless dongle plugged-in for wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The dongle remains plugged-in housed in the storage compartment where the USB outlets are. At times with the Cyberster, while turned OFF and LOCKED sends me a message on the MG App saying, "Android Auto connecting confirm connection on screen", and the screen has miraculously turned itself on. This occurred about 10pm and when I looked at the car in my carport indeed the screen was indeed turned on as if someone was sitting in the car. A bit spooky. It seemed to be behaving independently. If the screen is not touched in a minute or so it turns back off. What the heck?!?!? The car is turned OFF. How does this happen? Unfortunately it does not happen with any regularity however it generally appears after I've arrived home (in my other car) and somehow my mobile and the Cyberster "see each other" and begin to connect. I went with the dongle as the wired attempts were inconsistent at best with my Android. The dongle actually works great. But with my Cyberster "OFF apparently does not mean fully OFF". I just bought a new Android mobile so I'll check if the wired connection is more stable and if so I'll ditch the dongle as my wifes Apple connects with no issue wired or wireless. Oddly the phantom connection between the car and my Android does not occur with my wifes Apple. Bizarre. My new mobile is an OPPO out of China (as is the dongle) so maybe they like to talk to each other.

II is wired, Android, Samsung S21 Ultra, no software update on the car yet, and it works absolutly fine.
I do not miss wireless, but that is a personal preference. I like the phone to be charged. If wireless than I want it to be charged wireless as well.

Hi Hans, we're in agreement about the preference for charging the mobile while in Android use. When I used the wireless dongle I still used the C to C outlet for charging. I just checked my new OPPO N3 Find flip mobile and it connects perfectly now wired. This renders the need for the dongle unnecessary. My previous 3-year old mobile Samsung Galaxy Z flip 3 was troublesome on wired connections hence the dongle solution. (For motorcycle travel I prefer flip phones) So now I'm a happy camper with no dongle and now wired and charging! Hurry back.

Are you using a vpn. Android auto won't work with vpn .

I have new iPhone 16, and also a new MG4. The connection with Bluetooth works, but I want CarPlay. A USB-C to USB-C cable won’t even charge the phone, let alone allow CarPlay. Any suggestions?

I don't know the Cyberster USB ports, but in other models, only the USB-A port supports Carplay or Android Auto. So you need a USB-A to USB-C cable, of decent quality. Anker cables seem to be best by test, and not insanely expensive.

Only USB A can be used for aApple Carplay and max amps are 1.5A at 5V so very little charging power. Really bad for an electric car with so much battery and power.
