MGS5
Collected my MGS5 Trophy today after just 3 basically ok months with my XPower. My 4th MG from Waylands Oxford in less than two years - because their deals have been so good. ZS Excite 1.5, FL 5 SE, 4 XPower and now a grey S5.
Cash price was £21300 through last weeks deal, paid a moderate amount to px the 4, and cut monthlies by £100 too.
Finding my way through another MG operating system, largely going well. Great to have the OG stalks again as the MG4 ones felt clumsy and I frequently turned the lights off..
S5 softer than the XP but harder ride than the 5SE. Performance yet to be evaluated but so far so good.
But after the gloom of the XPower it’s great to have a light ambience, rear air vents, lights and armrest, decent boot and cheaper insurance and half the excess!
Decided to jump because the figures were cracking, and getting older the low car seemed less of a long term option.
Parked at work next to my mates ZS ice and surprisingly similar footprint but feels loads bigger inside - witness the scuttle width.
Happy chappy anyway!

Ok first update…. 😉
Set up custom pilot, switched off the speed nanny, she still interrupts the music and repeatedly tells me the limit. Fine if I’m speeding but if she’s read it wrong (as the MG4 frequently did) this will be really annoying. Consumption at least 25% better than same route in the 4, range so far hovering around book figures so very impressed. Too tired after work to explore the cars capabilities but a relaxing drive and even though there’s still a hairline shadow between dip and main beams the main beam is excellent.
One small warning though, if you are sat idle messing with the settings, you can inadvertently open the electric tailgate - make sure there’s nothing (like a lamppost) too close behind you!

That's quite a rate of change, but sounds like a good deal you got + the other benefits too.

Time to update your profile again then... hope this site doesn't ban you for 'fraudulent activity' due to abnormal frequency of changes of vehicle ;)

Ha ha, I did just that, luckily it was parked on the drive, while I was playing. I haven't found any documentation on this yet but you would think there would a sensor to stop this scenario from happening, not sure I'm willing to test it. I know you can adjust the opening height. I'm still exploring there's a lot to find.

😊
Still getting the speed warning even though it’s switched off..
Also the regen defaults to 1 and needs switching up every time.
Plus points the ac is excellent and the economy too. Still pleased with it 👍

Yep I noticed that as well, have you turned off the "focus on your driving" warning that keeps popping up even though I'm holding the wheel. When I get a bit of time I'll mess about with steering wheel height etc to see if that improves it, I'm 6ft and like the seat quite high so maybe that's upsetting the camera on top of the steering wheel. Other than this I'm really pleased with my S5.

Turn it off in the Navigation settings too, as well as setting it off under the MG Pilot Custom settings.

I would also recommend the ability to open the tailgate with your foot by waving it under the back end. I imagine this is for those times when your hands are full but you need the boot open. However mine started opening inside the garage when the charging cable snaked under the back end.

I turned the voice volume off on the screen and don’t get the interruptions now 🤞
Strangely while the regen defaults to 1 every time now I’ve turned on one pedal driving it does default to that. OPD is very good and not harsh like it was on the XP so I’ll leave that on.
But the economy/range is outstanding - I know it’s ideal weather at the moment but I’ve had full climate on daily, been cruising at 70 for half my commute and coming home in the dark, and from the trip and the GOM I’m heading for 280 from a full charge.
But considering all the road testers are saying it’s a generic design and looks like all the other SUVs, a fair few SUVs have been slowing to have a look as they pass me on the A34! I think it’s a great looking car, the wheels could fill the arches a bit better but the overhangs and proportions are really quite elegant. I particularly like the rear 3/4 view of the car as the semi upright back end and discreet notch/bootlid add something to it. Can’t believe I picked this car up for just 21k, absolute steal!

I really like the MG4 stalks, very solid and a nice action to them
I’m not knocking the 4 stalks per se, but several times when I pushed for main beam I flicked the lights off. But the main benefit of the OG stalks is the fog light switch is there not in the far corner of the screen - for when that car behind hasn’t dipped his lights. Oh and the S5 doesn’t have auto dip rear mirror! I wish they’d standardise their smaller items across the range, it’s the little bits that make the whole…

Agree. 🙂👍
Believe it or not, the 50 grand Cyberster, doesn't have a auto dip rear mirror, work that one out. 🙄🤪

My 5SE had rear speakers, lights, cup holders and armrest, the ZS Excite didn’t (ok, low spec) but neither did the XPower. At least they don’t do the Rover skinflint thing like Noddy hooters, that was unforgivable even back then.

I bet they will! Every car I’ve had from them has been at least 30% discounted…😉
(Actually it’s the eye watering road tax that makes it a 5 year plan….)
