After just one month of use, the charge port door / charge flap mechanism stopped working. The 'receiving' end on the car 'fell' into the car'. The pin and door itself are still in excellent condition.

There is now just a hole where the mechanism used to be. I booked it in with MG Bristol North and they said they won't fix it under warranty. She showed me a picture of the hole and said 'this is damaged'. Well, surprise, this is what I booked it in for...

We handle our car with great care and are gentle users - we knew how poorly constructed the mechanism is and were expecting it to not last long, but 1 month seems record-breaking...

I have now written to MG customer service and am awaiting their reply. Any thoughts or related experiences?

Thanks for letting me vent.

I would ask the dealer to mark on the image or show you in person which part exactly is damaged.

You're not having the best of luck with MG, are you :( 🤞
Haha. Thanks for everyone's kindness on here - it goes a long way. Happy with the car just very frustrating when you have to argue over tiny things like this. Yes, we bought a cheap car and cannot expect 1st class service, but it's not hard to show some understanding for customers. It took me two months to find an appointment that suited me because they don't offer a curtesy car. The car was in today for another issue that they are fixing under warranty - one of the rear doors doesn't open from the inside.

You should always expect 1st class service, the cost should not matter. It's the customer service that determines whether someone becomes a repeat buyer.

Also, I'd like to bust this myth of "cheap car" Whilst they were actually cheap due to heavy discounting for a brief period during runout, the MG5 is not and has never been a "cheap car" The facelift started at over £30k retail for the lower spec model!

A Dacia Sandero or a Kia Picanto is a "cheap car". The only MG that could be remotely described as one is the lowest spec. MG3!
