Charging cable not locking on MG4 Standard

Hi, just checking if anyone has the same issue. MG4 Standard should also lock charging cable connector I suppose? When I plug the cable into the car and lock the car the cable is not locked and I can pull it out. Should it be locking?

If you're DC charging, the thick cable sometimes pulls the plug down just far enough for the pin not to lock. It may help to hold the charger plug in place when locking the car. This shouldn't be an issue with AC chargers, but it may be I suppose.

Yes charging is working fine. We are talking about AC charging. I will check with other cable as well but i was using new Type2 220V charger. I think it may be that the end of the plastic pin that actually locks the connector could be damaged or broken. Would need to check if anyone already tried to replace only this pin and how complex this would be.

On more thorough inspection I suspect that the movement of the locking pin seems OK and it moves freely but it seems to me that the tip of it is broken and that's why it doesn't lock so the actual pin would probably need to be replaced. I don't know if anyone was already doing something similar so don't know how complex procedure this would be. Will check with authorized service company also. But I would not be replacing a whole charging port because of that.

Yeah I had this problem suddenly appear on my MG4 SE.
Got it fixed under warranty but it's a big job surprisingly..

That appears to be the case if the whole charging port has to replaced, as the fast charge DC cables have a connector that is plugged to the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) that sits on top of the HV battety pack.The cables consist of flying leads from the charge port.
Although I would have thought that parts like the locking pin and actuator assembly would be replaceable as they are likely to become damaged or wear over time.
Without the lock working and the charge connector is removed while charging there will be considerable damage to the charge port pins due to arcing that will take place.

Will arc Only when the car connector is removed whilst charging/discharging. It would be prudent to stop the charging first. Yes I would have thought the connector lock was a simple solenoid latch, I had one replaced on my zappi charger and it was very simple and a small box.

Yeah I would also think it should be built so it can be replaced without too much difficulty. Although with carmakers design ideas you never know - for example in Ford SMax some genius designer decided that the best place to access cabin air filter assembly would be at the feet of a driver where pedals are and you need to dismount the acceleration pedal to access and replace the filter.

Or the Renault Modos where the front of the car has to be dismantled to change a headlight bulb. My friends daughter had one and the local garage replaced all the bulbs at the front for an extra £10 while the car was in bits as a preventative measure.

I suspect those silly ways of replacing simple things are done deliberately so you bring your car back to the dealer, instead of fixing little things yourself. But maybe that’s pessimistic of me

I agree, but also lazy design.
