Hi, all,
Just brought my new MGS6 into the office, and have connected it to the Rolev EV 22kW chargers - however, the MG iSmart app is only reporting that the car is taking 3.4kW! I also had the same problem with my previous car (MG ZS LR).
I have verified that the charger itself can charge at a faster rate (a colleague with an BMW i4 can charge on the same charger at ~20kW)
Is this an issue with the car itself? Is it software-fixable?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks

AyeEye suggests that the MGS6 will be limited to 11kW from an AC charger - but that is still higher than the 3.4kW that is being reported...

Probably your cable. It is only single phase rather than three. 11 divided by 3 is about 3.4.

Borrow your colleague's cable and try that to test.

The S6 only has a maximum AC onboard charger of 7kW according to MG literature. Same across all trim level.

You got a home tethered charger, if yes, what does it charge at? In the iSMART app, you set to maximum current (32 amp)? Is your type 2 charge cable 16 or 32 amp rated?

So, I borrowed my colleague's 3-phase cable, and have found that the 3-phase charger itself is limited to 16A (so a theoretical 11kW)
However, my car still only charges at 3.4kW (My colleagues BMW i4 charged at around 11kW)
I do have a tethered charger at home, and I "think" it charges at just under 7kW (I've only charged the S6 at home once so far, and it was overnight, so I wasn't watching iSmart to check the charging rate)

Sounds like the car is single-phase then, and the charger is only offering 3.4kw on each phase.

If you are at work for a full day you should get a decent amount of charge in that time - 30kWh or so.

So 7kW draws 32 amps on a single phase. But 11kW draws 16 amps per phase on a 3 phase. If the car is only limited to a single phase @ 16 amp then it make sense that it can only draw 3.4kW.

O the car’s settings, what charge rate is set?

@abucksdiver, If your work charge point is 11 Kw then irrespective of the cable you'll only ever charge at 3.4Kw.
You'd be able to tell if your S6 is single or 3 phase charging by looking at the pins in the charge port. If there's two smaller ones at the top and three larger ones across the middle and nothing on the bottom row then it's single phase.
As @sky0000547 shows the MG tech. data states it as being only single phase, whereas the independent data says 3 phase, often independent data is incorrect. However even MG have got it wrong on occasions by stating that the MG4 had 7Kw on board charging, but some of the early long range versions had 3 phase 11Kw charging.

That’s good info, will have a look in the morning. So basically for AC charging there is no point paying for 11 or 22kW public chargers? Better off finding a 7kW public charger instead?
