From what i have read, the MG ZS EV have a internal relay in the battery pack that achieves the same as this plug.
First off, if the car is in an accident, airbags deployed and so on, this relay disconnects to prevent the risk of electrocution, but even if this does not happen, fire and rescue will only have to cut the ground wire to the 12V battery as this is what energises this contactor.
The plug underneath is mainly if you want to service the battery itself or one of the components that is connected to the HV battery (Motors, AC battery charger, battery itself, heater, LV battery charger etc).
It is also adviced to pull the plug if the car has been submerged, to prevent potential water ingress into the battery to cause a short.
