Rear Dashcam Installation - has anyone removed the trim on the top of the tailgate to get the cabling through to the camera position? How does it come off? Looks like there's a wide retaining clip at the top. Which bits do you pull?

I tried getting cables through from the rear to the front of the car in the headlining but there appears to be a metal bar half way down the car that's getting in the way. Anybody had any success - if so, how did you do it.

Thanks for any help.

Do you mean this part? If so, I have the same question. I want to position the rear cam just below the plastic cover.

Yes, that's it. I can get fingertips into the gap at the top but that long clip stops it. Maybe I'll try a trim tool on the bottom edge.

Are you attempting to gain access to the rubber cable conduits too? I flexed the clip as far as I dared but was afraid that I'd break it if I went too far.

Yes, when I get a chance I'll try a trim tool near the glass 🙄. It must come off. Might have to ask the dealer how to get it off. Knowing Arnold Clark they'll want me to pay ££'s to scan the system beforehand!!!

Had my dashcam fitted professionally this morning. The trim in question popped off in seconds. Very neat job, using the rubber conduits to route the wires. All cables really well hidden.

UPDATE Using the trim tool that came with the dashcam kit - I inserted it at the top of the right side and moved it down the join and gave it a hard tug and it released. Did the same on the left side. This makes it easy to get the trim tool into the gap at the bottom and give it a hard tug around every 6 inches (there are about 6 clips holding the panel in place - and they are really tight). Be careful - the cable for the high brake light is connected from the body of the car to this trim). This was a test run for me and I will take a pic when I next have it removed (when I fit the rear camera).

There are actually 5 clips holding this in place - all rather a tight fit and a bit scary! Attached is the picture of the panel removed clearly showing the blue retaining clips. The cable comes from the headlining into the rubber gaitor (there's only one other cable in this gaitor - I used a long cable tie to pull it through) and emerges from the tailgate. The panel goes back - with a firm push at the clip locations - I did left side - right side - then the 3 other clips. I'll get another picture of the camera in place - I attached mine to the brakelight cover rather than the window.
