Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Got one as it was cheaper to run nippy to drive and is convenient.
Now a two car ev family and won't go back
Pretty much the same for us. Convenience of never having to fill up at a filling station was a big plus.

also I was installing solar and EV locked with solar win win
(y) for sure - biggest reason for us was we have more solar than we can do anything with for much of the year (though not this week!), so free to charge up for 8 months of the year.

When my previous car was due for replacement, (an Eco Green Diesel as they were portrayed in 2013 when purchased), diesel was in 2023 starting to be demonised, and the ULEZ emission scheme started up in London then it seemed appropriate to change to something that was ULEZ compliant, and ahead of the game when it came to the transport strategy for the future. EV was the answer, future proof, cheaper to run, emissions zero for people in the surrounding. Its got to be better for the environment too.
Then all the watering down of the ban on ICE sales from 2030 began, paying a licence fee, and Congestion change exemption withdrawn.

Yep, EVs perhaps not quite as attractive,
than say a couple of years ago. For the 1st time EV driver. But all things considered, to me anyway they are a no brainer. And wouldn't consider for One second, going back to ICE. 🙂👍

Well, the licence fee was never going to stay low/£0 as EV take-up increased.

But about the congestion charge: that only applies to central London doesn't it? ICEs still have to pay the ULEZ fee on top don't they? And EVs don't have to pay the ULEZ fee at all.

Since the congestion charge is a traffic control measure it still seems reasonable. But I have a feeling some ULEZes might transmogrify to a congestion charge at some point.

Pretty much the same here, after 5 MX5s over the previous 20 years I wanted something different, fancied trying an EV and here we are, 2 EVs as well. As for the planet, I'm sure it will be fine once the next mass extinction happens (human race).

I've set up a poll as mentioned!

A few more options than the last time, so more potential for nuance.

Hopefully it won't go downhill in the comments like the last one did!

I have an MX5 as a second car.

It's interesting looking at what cars the contributors to this thread drive. Most of you have or have had an MG4.

I wonder for how many of you the MG4 was your first EV?
Was for me, until the MG4 came out EVs were either more £££s than I was willing to pay for a car or fugly/low spec.

I started with a mk 2.5 in 2003 and ended up with an ND from the 2015 launch that I kept until 2023, a total of 5 over that period. I do miss it on a sunny day but since retiring my hobbies meant it wasn't practical as a daily driver so it was only doing 2k miles a year.

I had the very early ZS (one of the first 200 available) then changed to the MG5 estate car when that came out. Brilliant car loved it.
Then looked at the MG 4, hated the shape, especially the crinkled rear end, and went back to Citroen eBerlingo (not for sleek, svelte looks obvs 🤣)

I don't think I'd want one as a daily driver, mine is a fair whether car, it's sleeping in the garage at the moment.

Yes the emissions was high on my list. Only been driving an EV for 6 months but it suits my lifestyle perfectly and I don’t believe I will ever go back the difference EVs have made to air quality in London is staggering.

My first was the pre-facelift MG5, delightful car to drive and would still own it were it not for the fact the final payment on my PCP was going to be more than the car was then worth.

A very similar journey, early ZS, then MG5 and then a move away from MG, for me to a second hand Hyundai Kona (again not exactly for the looks!).
I did like the look of the MG4 but my wife (short a***) couldn't have lived with those wide door sills for getting in and out !
