Do I need a Hive charger if I’m with BG?

My new MG4 SE EV is due to be delivered in a few weeks and wondering as I’m with British Gas do I need to have the Hive charger fitted to get the off peak tariff or can I get any charger installed?

This is my first EV so any info would be great!

Very likely, as almost all EV tarrifs are no longer available (certainly not online), you maybe lucky as they may be willing to move you on to their EV 'offering' for exisitng customers, but you might have to take their charger offering. You also wont get anywhere with their call centre / online chat - you need to ring their dedicated EV team, i was with them before I moved to EDF, and actually found BG very helpful (I needed a smart meter fitted, and managed to get through to their EV team, who were very helpful on EV advice.)

Thanks for that info, I’ve just tried ringing through to their EV team but they’ve temporally cancelled the line, I’m guessing to review it with everything that’s going on. It does say it’ll be available soon so I’ll try again in a few days, thank you!

I have not seen the HIVE EVSE so does it integrate with solar panels and a battery like the Zappi does?
All smart EVSE work with off peak tariffs but integrate better than others with some suppliers.

from my experience (albeit a few weeks), you can either use the car (or MG ismart app) or the charger (or associated charger app) to set time of day charging, the problem I find is which one takes precedent - as I still have not found the basic default charging method - which I would expect to be "plug in and charge" (I find I need to close the car/then open/then try something else to get it charging) - Im sure I'll work out things with time

Best to use either car or EVSE timer but don't set both.
