Hi.

I bought a 2022 Mg4 SE Long Range last month, and I've checked the firmware today, and it ends with R13.

I've read on here that there are a few later versions, however I've also heard horror stories about the LKA and Collision Assist being dangerous.

At the moment, I've done about 800 miles, and not had any problems with either. I'm worried if I get the system updated with my next service, it will potentially lead to these issues.

If I refuse the update, will it void the warranty or anything?

Thanks!

Don’t forget that the R number only indicates what firmware your infotainment is on, it doesn’t indicate much about all the other modules on the car. Although one could argue if your infotainment hasn’t been updated in ages it’s unlikely the other modules are up to date.

The LKA was tamed by SC077 which won’t change your R number. If you want to make sure your car has received this update I would suggest contacting your MG dealer to see what they have on record.

Finally, updates are not a regular part of servicing and tend to incur a fee, so if you’re happy with your software it is unlikely your dealership would update without telling you, unless it’s an safety issue or they’re trying to fix something you’ve indicated (like lost Bluetooth connections).

A 2022 car will be on the SWI69 software branch .. the very latest for that is SWI69-29958-1100R45. (Mine came with R13 from new, so the OP's is on a very early release).

There are other software updates though, not just the Infotainment. If you get R38 or later (like R45) then you also really should have an HVAC module software update. Plus there are updates to improve LKA and ACC. (If you set cruise control and then tap the left joystick up or down once, by how many MPH does the cruise target change?)

It goes up ad down in 1mph increments. Or 5mph, if I hold it down.

My main worry is about the LKA.

With my current software it's fine, it slightly pulls me back if I cross a line. But I've heard some Mg4 drivers say it's dangerous and yanks at the wheel

So I'm wondering if one of the newer updates may cause this.

Sounds like your car has already had SC077 and associated updates, so no issue on the LKA front. It's just other updates (like HVAC*) and Infotainment that are missing.

* The HVAC update vastly improves how HVAC performs .. previously I would have to set the target temp to 25C and manually set the fan speed; after the update (together with R38, I think) I now set it to 21C and just leave everything on Auto. :)

Yep. I have to set it to 27c just to get a nice temp. So an update to that would be nice.

I'll ask when I get it's service done. But fingers crossed it doesn't mess with the LKA
