Hello everyone , this is my first post and I,m going to start by considering ACC LKA and emergency braking which are now prevalent on new cars not just EVs. I have 42 years of driving experience both cars and bikes and have had several minor accidents , two my fault and five not, all below 20 mph where LKA would not be activated if I,d had it, and the same for ACC.
The emergency braking would have helped in three of the incidents ( maybe ) touche bois I,ve not had anything major.
In that time I can only recall one time when I would have appreciated ACC to avoid a sticky situation and never ever needed LKA.
I,ve ordered a MG4 for hopefully delivery before June and am dismayed by reports of its reactions to some of its "safety " features and as with other cars its automated resetting to default on , after switching off these intrusions. I realise all manufacturers are following NCAP rules to get the star ratings but are they or NCAP going to accept liability for any accidents caused by these systems if they are working correctly or if they are not . The MG users manual states the driver is responsible for the vehicle a point I agree with , but can a car have two masters .
On the test drive I took the car kept flashing me a message to watch the road when I was glancing left and right looking for pedestrians . What are your thoughts.

There are quite a few of us older members who want none of this intrusive stuff at all. When I'm no longer capable of controlling the car myself it will be time to hand in my driving licence.

I was trying to get across that drivers should not be reliant on technologies when those technologies are still in there infancy and manufacturers are cutting corners on costs to maximise sales . We as drivers have to take full responsibility for our control of our vehicles and as its been reported that some cars are behaving erratically when these are turned on (default) then are we in full control?

ABS is the only one I’d keep, it’s the only one that works properly.
I’m a routine late and hard braker, I enjoy it, and ABS is rarely intrusive even in that scenario, but I still appreciate it’s there for a true emergency when I’ve no time to feel for grip.
The rest, down to traction control, I would happily bin in a heartbeat.

You were probably driving an early car that has the attention monitoring. It did that on my test drive. Later cars have it disabled until its improved.

Regarding the problem's reported on here…..im taking it with a pinch of salt until i get my own experience.

The forum doesnt have that many posters. Those that do seem to have a multitude of problems and issues……

Whereas there are a host of drivers of mgs simply driving their cars without looking under the car for undertray issues and complaining their dusks look a bit tarnished.

I use LKA on my Kia Sportage when on motorway journeys along with ACC, both function perfectly.
The LKA on the MG4 needs a compulsory recall, it's dangerous full stop.
Watching that video from the Thai fellow when the car picked up the U tern markings, just scary really and the Sportage has never exhibited such behaviour in the three years I have owned it.

His discs are needing replaced because they are corroded that's more than tarnished. Undertrays have snapped and broken off, people have been locked in cars and oil has leaked over people's drives an issue that is now fast approaching it's 4th month, but may finally be sorted. These issues are reported widely on social media also
it's good that you are waiting to make your own mind up, as you should, however I do think to just dismiss forum members issues as there aren't many of them and your taking their complaints with a pinch of salt is pretty poor.

The collective knowledge on this forum has assisted numerous people and their collective experiences would seem to be quite representative of the issues people have faced.
I hope your car has no issues but if it does your more likely to find the answers to questions on here rather than your dealer or MG.

Taking drivers not noticing problems as a positive is quite something.

The issue that I am seeing here is that we are obliged to use those systems while they are far from being fail-safe or even reliable. And in the end it will always be the driver's responsibility if an accident happens. Some systems are helpful, others are even the opposite. Being forced to use the latter ones is bizarre, but that's how it is.

The quality of those systems also varies wildly. I could let my Ioniq 5 drive to Italy almost by itself, the MG4 would land in a ditch next to my house if I tried.

It would be good if people who have MG4s reported LKA to the authorities as dangerous and then we might get a recall to disable it.

My LKA is turned off, there is a update to clam it down but I would mean turning it off every time so I refused it and I am happy leaving it off.

My car, which I barely remember seeing as it’s exactly a month it’s been at the dealer, keeps the lane assist off too.
Unfortunately unsubstantiated rumour I’ve yet to experience says the latest updates remove the ‘permanently off’ bonus from those of us lucky to have cars that do it.
So just because you and I enjoy ‘permanently off’ now, doesn’t mean we always will.

Exactly bowfer ,which is why simple illuminated 1980,s switches on/ off on the dash would solve many of my/our gripes.
Having to scroll a series of menus is distracting, the police and courts have a phrase for it , driving without due care and attention?
Thanks to all replies but we are all singing off the same hymn sheet .

I had the LKA update and it still stays off all the time. I'm still on R29 in the infotainment so don't know if an update to that will change things.

Agreed. The rest is just nannying bollox that utterly ruins what could be a decent drivers car.
Traction control is welcome on a public road though, tried it a few times in the off position and I'm not sure I have the reactions in wet conditions to deal with snap oversteer any more 😬
Thought I could relive my youth in my MK2 Escort Mexico, but no.😭
