Please can anyone advise I leave my ZSEV plugged onto my house car charging point does the charger stop consuming electricity when the car is charged or does it still burn electric all the time. If it does can you fit a timer to switch it off after a period of charging time.

It should only use electric when charging
If your using on normal electric rate it could be a shock as the car battery is bigger then what most people use in a day

How often do you leave the EVSE connected and if it is smart have a look at a night time tariff.

Once the car is charged it should draw no power.

I personally used Ohme Pro and set max charging at 7.5p as I’m on Octopus. Charging always stops at 4:30am.

What model ZS EV do you own ???
Gen 1 or Gen 2 ( facelift ) standard range or long range ???.
The answer you require maybe different, depending of these facts (y).

Also, are you leaving it plugged in all the time? - you shouldn't keep the battery at 100% for too long so unless you need it at 100% for a journey don't store it that high.

In a day......it's bigger than we consume in over a week.

In answer to teh original question, I have a smart timer (Sonoff mini) fitted to my Viridian charger. The charger was custom built for me by a specialist, inside the box of my broken pod point. I'm sire you could get any competent electrician (i.e doesn't need to be a car charger installer) to fit some sort of device on your feed to the wall charger but obviously at a cost.

However as said above, your box will not consume significant power when not charging - maybe just enough to run an LED or two.

In the first place you really need to understand your usage (- maybe you already do, but this is still a worthwhile exercise). If you have your bills for the past year just compare your usage (not the cost) at the same time of year and see if it has gone up by more than you'd expect for the amount you've charge the car, give or take a bit. I know loads of people are getting horrendous surprises on their bills, even those who don't have an EV, purely as a result of not realising just how much their unit cost has gone up.

Also consider getting on one of the smart tariffs (I'm with Octopus on the Go tariff - see referrer link in my signature below - others use OVO and there are more) which gives you overnight cheap rate (often 4 hours) during which you can charge the car (and do other stuff) at a very cheap rate (in my case at the moment mine is less than a quarter of my day rate) - though you will need a mechanism to turn the charger on and off automatically at the beginning and end of that period.

If you’re concerned you can always unplug it. Once charged to whatever % is set it stops. Try Octopus for cheap off peak rates if you’re paying full rates to charge - you’ll need to phone them, but I think you can still get on the list.

What model ZS EV are you driving @Robert Gardner original Gen 1 or Gen 2.
If so, standard range or long range versions.
Are you using a wall box ( what make of unit and is it a dumb or smart unit ) or are you using a three pin plug Granny lead ???.
Although they are similar, a reply can be better tailored to provide a better answer to your question - thanks 👍.

As an afterthought should I switch off the power to my charger when not using it? If I do will it lose the settings?

Outside wall mounted OHME Pro

Unless you are concerned that somebody may turn up and use your wall box for a free charge Vic, I would not bother myself personally.
If you turn off your wall box at the breaker switch in the CU ( fuse box ) then you do run the risk of loosing your saved settings, I would think.

I’m not sure why you would want to turn it off. Restarting it from time to time perhaps. In standby it uses minimal energy
Has anyone ever had someone they don’t know plug their car in and pinch a few hours of free charging from their home wallbox? Perhaps E-stealing will become more prevalent with the prices of energy?

No I haven't. But the ev.energy app I use with my Rolec charger has a "lock" setting which means the charger is accessible only to my car and via my phone or iPad. The app also has a "Holiday lock" setting which disables ALL charging of any car.

Do other apps linked to home chargers not offer something similar?

That’s a good point. All wall boxes with an app should provide a security feature feature like that. I still feel that the likelihood of a stranger using your home charger is very slight.

Home no, work yes, had someone plot up and plug in, dumb rolecs, we now lock them off with a key.

My EO uses 8w when idle, doesn't lose settings when powered off by the breaker. But when configured for off-peak or timer, you cant plug n play without starting it by the app. I was also concerned about chancers as I'm right on the school run and many of them plot up an hour+ before kicking out time, when I'm always out at work.

Highly unlikely really isn't it. It's not exactly going to be a smash and grab, they are going to have to sit in their car for hour(s) or abandon it on your property (I can see your number plate) all for the sake of a couple of quids worth of electrons.
