I don’t know the feasibility of this and hope someone can help. In the event of a failure of the battery or a software glitch where I became unable to open a door or window and was trapped inside the car how would I be able to get out? Is there a simple way or would I have to call for assistance. Suffering from claustrophobia, it’s a situation that worries me.

I suspect you’d need power to unlock the doors if they have been locked, they do this automatically once surpassing 15 km/h, I not sure if you can turn this off in the settings. But if the car is unlocked I don’t see why you couldn’t open the door.

Always worth keeping an emergency hammer in the car to smash a window if you need to. You get quite compact ones nowadays too.

You could also crawl into the back perhaps (time permitting) and use the emergency release on the tail gate.

Yes not tried but surely if you operate the door opening lever from inside the door should open regardless as it should release the locking should it be locked , i assume.

Yes, the inside door handle / pull lever will mechanically operate the door catch / lock, without the need for any battery power.

Whilst completely agreeing with #3,4,5. For peace of mind a way to test the theory is to drive the car until they auto lock, return home and have someone else disconnect the 12v battery whilst you remain in the car ( not sure if opening the bonnet will affect the results ) then try to get out. ( or not ).

One of these:

Have used one to shatter glass in an emergency. Does work.
A (last minute) stocking filler. Goes on a key ring so potentially always with you when out with your car.

No idea why the Amazon associate thing has appeared. Just pasted the link from the Amazon app. 🤷‍♂️

I always have a razor sharp pocket knife with me. Cutes everything. And the resque hammers are placed at both sides of the console.

@ging353 had a problem in May/June 2024 reported in their thread ' Door failing to open ' where their car had a flat battery, they used the mechanical key to enter the car but let the door shut. They were unable to exit the car by using the door handle and were not physically able to use the boot exit. They had to wait until a neighbour noticed them and unlocked the door. Note: the search function did not find this thread.

They took the car to the dealer who reported they had fixed the problem. I DM'd @ging353 to ask if they had checked it did work by disconnecting the 12V battery but did not receive a reply. I doubt the dealer did and can understand why @ging353 was hesitant to repeat the experience.

(I have a hammer and a spare mobile phone in my Trophy.)

I can't find a thread by ging353, but I wonder if you might be referring to this post @Martinonline ?
