Has anybody explored changing the fake engine noise the mg5 makes? Maybe with a box that allows for the noise to be selected.... like those cheap doorbells. Feels like a fun and very achievable little project.

Thinking this through a little more.... Maybe a box used with electric guitars would work. They tend to sit between the guitar and the amp though. In the case of the MG5 I would have thought the sound is already amplified before it is sent to the speaker under the hood.

I have never looked for the speaker, where abouts is it?

Mine doesn't have a fake engine noise, it just whines, even when no-one is in the passenger seat.

Mine doesn’t seem to have any noise other than maybe sounding like a souped up milk float once it’s moving, had a couple of times when I’ve had to patiently crawl behind pedestrians until they realised I was there (rather than rudely beeping the horn) and I scared someone walking past me when I silently switched on and pulled away from the kerb as they had no idea I had the motor on

My previous (Ampera) had a special horn beep button (on the end of one of the stalks) you could use without shocking people.

Is there an option in the infotainment settings for the pedestrian alert? I think I need someone to drive my car past me at low speed so I can listen to it myself ?

Nothing in the infotainment to turn it off, and yes have a listen when someone else drives it, it may surprise you. :)

Pedestrian alert noise systems have been mandatory on all "silent" electric vehicles since 2019 so you won't be able to turn it off. My 2017 Leaf has a "run silent" button on the dashboard that temporarily switches off the noisemaker but that would not be permitted on a new car.

But can you turn the volume up?
