EV tariffs

Thanks John. I tried making a spreadsheet with some EV tariffs and it doesn't add up for me, Octopus Go quoted more than others (8.5p) + I need gas as well and haven't seen any options for gas on Octopus...
You should consider Intelligent Octopus Go, that's 7p kWh , you can only have IOG if you have a compatible charger or vehicle, the Zappi I suggested IS compatible with IOG. Octopus do a range of gas tariffs.

If I go for any better tariff with Octopus, I need to have approved charger etc (which I don't at the moment and thinking if I even need one - using 3kW charger overnight for the past 18 months no problems).
I thought you mentioned installing a Podpoint charger?

During the year, I spend about 3 times more on peak electricity than off peak and the gas, don't even ask, like there is no tomorrow...
You need to get batteries installed, my average kWh cost is just over 5p this year.

I don't have 7kW wall box (£1,000 all in on average), solar panels may or may not happen for the next couple of years (one day when I put up a decent size garden shed) and the home battery also seems like a distant dream...
Zappi can be bought for £550 (ebay new) or £625 (Tradesparky). Run the cable yourself and get a sparky to connect it up for you. Installation shouldn't cost more than an hours work.

Looking at my amateurish spreadsheet, EDF EV + Pod Point Solo 3S over the next 2 years is £60 more expensive than the cheapest dual fuel EV tariff (peak and of peak electricity, gas and standing charges) with BG but I get 7kW charger for £499 ... Assuming installation is included in this deal!!! If not, no way ...
I believe Octopus also offer wallbox installation, they usually do Ohme wallboxes which seem OK.

Anyway, by the time I make up my mind, they'll probably change the prices again...
Always a problem, just say sod it and press the button :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I resisted the idea of a 7kW wallbox for the first 2 years of EV ownership and coped with just the 3 pin. In the end the convenience of being able to add 50%+ overnight and doing the odd <10-100% balance charge in a sensible timescale sold me on the idea. Octopus installed the Zappi back in March for £1049, we have since added a second EV to the household which has made the Zappi more useful. What has surprised me is that over the last 6 months of the 1750 kWh I have purchased one third was at peak rate, one third at off peak (6 hour slot) and a third using Octopus smart charge, so 7p kWh during peak rate hours. This has resulted in an average rate of 12p kWh, I'm still gathering the final figures to work out how much of the charging has been directly from my 4kW solar array excess but the rough figures are £240 spent on electricity at home (plus standing charge), £155 on public charging (1150 mile trip to Scotland), somewhere around 6000 mile travelled offset by £700 FiT income from the solar panels.

Don't understand what you mean by EVSE dependent.
Agree Octopus Go is good but restrictive 0030 to 0430.
The OVO tariff seems far more flexible with daytime cheap rates but my car and charger are not compatible hence my enquiry.
Octopus Go: 11:30 - 5:30 @7.5Kw/Hr. For car charging and any other usage for same price during those times i.e. Solar battery charge, Dishwasher, washing machine and anything else.

My Octopus Go quote now shows more than a few days ago - peak 31.64p, off-peak 8.5p (5 hours 00:30 to 5:30) standing charge 47.7p. and all that is more expensive than British Gas...

Must be an area thing (pk rate 28.96p just checked and 23:30 - 05:30 7p its gone down, sc 45.42/day) Living in the fens reasonably close to a wind farm has its advantages after all.

You are quoting Intelligent Octopus Go figures, not Octopus Go where the off-peak is 00:30-05:30 at 8,5p/kWh
