Ever had the car fail to go into drive/reverse?

Last week I experienced a weird glitch where I couldn't engage reverse. It'd go into drive, but not reverse. Then yesterday leaving work it wouldn't engage drive.
In both cases I had to power off the whole car and then back on and it was fine.
(Also had another glitch today where the radio didn't turn off when I locked it.)

I've had it seem to happen but I think it was just something I did wrong because pressing the brake again cleared it. I've not had to power the car off to fix it.

I've had it happen only a couple of times in the 14 months I've had the car and "fixed" it by engaging P, taking my foot off the brake, pressing the brake pedal again and then it would work.

I've not seen those symptoms. It sometimes won't go into D or R before it has started up properly, so I always wait and get settled before I drive off (I typically need to adjust mirrors anyway). But I haven't ever needed to turn it off and on again.

I've had it happen to me once, and so has the husband. I just took it as a glitch, powered down, and carried on. It's only happened the once to both of us. I assume we'd done something in the wrong order.

Does provide some convenient new excuses though: "Sorry I'm late, had to wait for the car to boot up!"

I had this once when I wanted to reverse into my driveway.

Can't remember what I did to refresh it but I cleared the issue.

Bit of a worry but thankfully hasn't returned.

I've had this when the door is slightly open. The car seems to be very air-tight, so the door needs a firm hand. It's given me a real turn, but eventually the penny drops that the door needs closed.

I drove SWMBO's MG5 the other day and it was fantastic to be able to switch it on with no delay and drive off straight away.

Yes just got the car last week. This happened to me today. Moved it back and forth and then it worked but bit strange. Funny going through these forums as you read some and then it happens to you the next day. I like the car but my word does it have some quirky issues.

I think I'm going to miss my ST when I get rid of it. The thing's been totally reliable, is reasonably fast though not in the XPowers league for acceleration. It's a very nice place to spend a lot of time while trying not to swear too much at other drivers.
The MG has a LOT more tech, most of it looking like a pain in the neck to be honest but I'm really bored of being followed by police in their fluorescent cars all the time, they seem to be attracted to the ST for some reason. They've never stopped me but it does get unnerving after a while!

The MG has a LOT more tech, most of it looking like a pain in the neck to be honest but I'm really bored of being followed by police in their fluorescent cars all the time, they seem to be attracted to the ST for some reason. They've never stopped me but it does get unnerving after a while!

A lad I know had the Focus RS and although he enjoyed the car he part exchanged it after 3 months. He got fed up of being chopped up and challenged to race by every boy racer in the area.

In that time I have never once been challenged, raced or stopped by the police.

I've never experienced this, although I have had it not register my first 'twist'.

I've accidentally 'twisted' the wrong way a time or two and got quite a surprise

I was chopped up and challenged by a couple of unmarked police cars once, in my XR2.
