Hi all,

New to this forum and EV in general, so seeking help regarding schedule charging and the best charger for the vehicle.

I have purchased a 2020 plate ZS and my installer recommended a Rolec QUBEV smart charger. I have had this installed and have been using the QUBEV app but it will not schedule charge due to what is described on the forum as "Deep Sleep" mode on the vehicle. If I unlock and then relock the vehicle charging will commence. I have tried various lengths of time before schedule charging commences, but nothing will work unless it is within 20 minutes of locking the vehicle.

I have been told by my local MG dealer that the vehicle has had all its updates and there should be no problems. If I use the "granny" charger I can plug this in and then switch it on 4 hours later and it will charge, but as I travel 50 miles per day this is really not practical on a 2Kw charger.

Has anyone found a 7Kw charger that overcomes this problem, or a way of using the Rolec QUBEV charger to schedule charge at cheap rate off peak. If I have to sell the QUBEV and purchase another model, so be it, it is better than waiting up until midnight to unlock and then relock the car.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There were issues with the ZS going to sleep but it should be OK if it has had all the updates.

I am surprised they recommended the Rolec, it would have been better to go for an Ohme or Zappi

Hi,

Thanks for he reply. It has been in several times to the dealership and they have told me all updates are complete. I have contacted MG direct and they have confirmed that if it goes back in for another check it will cost in excess of £169.00 for a diagnostic check. With regards to the Rolec I had three quotes and two recommended the Rolec so I assumed that was the most common or most reliable.

As it seems to work ok with the "granny" charger on a technical scheduled charge, should it work with a wall charger? I understand that it is charging at a higher rate, but is the connection the same so technically scheduled charging should work? Could be the Rolec isn't compatible?

I have a Rolec EVSE (charger), though not the one you have, and, along with the ev.energy app, it works without this problem, though, as my profile shows, I have the pre-facelift MG5.

Have you considered talking to Rolec and asking their advice? Their Product Support page is here. They may not be able to help since your problem seems to be caused by the car itself, but perhaps it is worth a try?

On my 2020 ZS EV the sleep problem only happened after 6 hours, so I plugged in during the evening for an overnight smart charge using a Rolec EVSE.

I have 2023 ZS and the same charger as you and was unable to set scheduled charge got in touch with Rolec at rolec support, they couldn't have been quicker to respond or to sort it out for me.
