Fuel filler flap release wizardry...

Hi, Is there a knack to getting the fuel filler flap to release? Yes, I've read the manual but every trip to the forecourt involves a random number of button presses which after a random amount of time (several minutes usually) the dash eventually displays the required message and the flap can be opened.

Press and hold the button for approx 5 seconds. Seems to work every time for me.

1. Press the button with your thumb and hold for 2-3 seconds.
2. Release the button.
3. Wait for the message on screen that says you can open the flap.
4. Then walk around the car - and open the flap.

If you are new to this car, practice it a couple of times at home - before going to the pump. I did that a year ago.

I just double checked all this. Its like this ....
a) the press down is just 2-3 seconds. Then release the press down.
b) in a second the first message appears with a YELLOW fuel pump sign saying "please wait to refuel".
c) a second or two later the second message appears with a GREEN fuel pump sign saying "please refuel". It then gives you ample time to walk round the car to press the fuel flap door: no rush.
d) after you have filled and closed the fuel flap door it then waits about about 3-4 seconds before auto - locking the flap.
My car is 2023 MG HS + EV. I assume yours is the same, as there was no significant model change between 2021 and 2024. The new model 2025 has only just arrived into Australia.
