The user manual is little help on finding the fuse box. Im fitting a dash cam with a hardwire kit today so first things first find the cabin fuse box. Manual says it's behind the drivers knee panel, so after an hour of not trying to break anything I finally worked out how to get to it.
First thing is to prize off the end panel of the dash and remove it.

Then undo the two screws in yellow above holding the right hand side of the knee panel.
Then undo the two metal screws under the knee panel that holds the flat base panel with the footwell light in it (unplug the light). There are two more large plastic screws holding the panel corners to the front bulkhead.

Then starting at the left side of the knee panel start to pull the panel away from the dash, its just clipped in place. The fuse box is located RH side of the steering wheel.

Are you doing a permanent live or switched live? I’m guessing you are piggybacking on one of the existing fuses, more photos of the fuse box please with your wiring.

Good question, not sure yet, still some testing to do. The nut at the red arrow in the pic is live all the time, so I guess I thats the +12v input for all of these fuses, that means they are all permanently powered and not controlled by the "Ready" state. The nut at the green arrow is a good earth. The fuse arrowed is the one for the sunroof blind so I thought it would power down after a while but it doesn't, even though the blind stops working after a while, so I guess its the control unit for the blind that powers itself down rather than the fuse box losing power.

Theres a fuse box under the bonnet too according to the manual, but I dont know it thats the same concept too (permanent 12v) and anyway that would mean going through the front bulkhead with the wiring.
Im going to see if the dash cam auto powers down if the 12v supply drops to a certain level, if it does then I can use that as a trigger with a diode or two in circuit.

Good to know these things, I'm just glad I took the easy option with the OBD port. :)

After 2 days trying to find a 12v power supply at the fuse box that powers down either:
1. when you go out of Ready,
2. or power down from the infotainment screen
3. or when you close the door and lock the car
4. or any combinations of the above a few minutes later.
Ive given up and just plugged it in to the 12v cig lighter socket for now. It is as easy enough to o hide most of the wiring behind trim and under the dash, the only hit visible and untidy is from the 12v socket to where it first goes under the dash.

I even tried to get to the back of the 2 front USB sockets and the 12v socket to connect up there somehow but gave up trying to force the panel off and I did notice some orange HV cables behind there too.

Lot of work you've put into this, really useful post and info, but given your current situation would an OBD connector not be useful?

For a tenner Ive ordered an OBD hardwire kit from Amazon, if it works as I want then it will look tidier than the cigarette lighter option. On the previous hardwire kit (fuse box type) the low voltage protection function was useless, yes it cut the power as described when the voltage dropped, but it refused to start up again and provide 5v to the camera when the 12v voltage recovered, unless I completely disconnected the 12v power completely first. This means if the 12v depletes, the camera disconnects as expected, but when the cars 12v gets charged automatically by the HV then the camera doesn't start up again afterwards.

Ive had an OBD connection with my previous dishpan in the MG4 Xpower for thick end of 2 years before fitting it to the S6, so easy to install, but its been the first time Ive had a permanent live rather than a switched so I had reservations but don't have now, just works,

Somewhat related to this, does anyone know if the 12v battery gets charged as well when charging the main battery?
