Just looking for some advice. Looking at a still to be registered 64kw MG 4 Trophy at £22000.

Good deal or not. Be keen to get some independent views.

Thanks

Sounds pretty good to me for brand new one, especially if its the colour you want. Presumably cash or PCP with highish % APR ?

Very similar to the MG Affinity Scheme so plenty of choice at these prices.

That is around the going rate on Autotrader. One thing these discounted prices often include the discount available from the MG affiliate program, so it is worth checking with the seller.

Worst case, you will need to join the MG owner's club for 3 months if you can not meet any of the eligibility terms.

I think it depends on how you’re buying it as to whether or not it’s a good deal. And, whether or not you’re intending on keeping it.

My xpower was £18k, albeit with 10k miles on the clock and 2yrs old. But it is genuinely like new aside from scrubbed tyres. I’d argue a used xpower for £18-£20k is a better deal as they’ve already suffered the worst of the depreciation hit and imo will hold value better than a trophy or SE. Plus it’s green and fast as ****.

If you’re going to keep it for 4+ years I think cheaper used examples of the Trophy with FSH are better value.

If you’re keeping for 2-4yrs (pcp or leasing), it boils down to the monthlies. Current lease deals (8k miles, roughly £2k initial payment) for an MG4 come out at about £190 a month which I imagine is cheaper than any new pcp you’ll find. An MGS5 which is a better car, is about £235 with those terms - that’s where the value is in the current MG lineup imo.

If a pcp is much more than that, I’d go with a lease - unlikely you’ll be in positive equity with an EV, especially an MG, so the benefits of a pcp, being potential equity and flexibility to exit early, are limited.

New MG4 may be coming soon too (can’t remember when it hits the UK), which will depress current gen prices even further, which is also worth bearing in mind.

As someone who has just got a very good deal on an MG4, and the ‘best’ variant of that model, I wish I’d have got an MGS5 instead - it’s more practical, more comfortable and the ridiculous software quirks have for the most part been addressed. For £30 a month more, the S5 is a no brainer to me if it fits your budget and leasing suits your needs.

Just remember that Xpowers have a vibration issue though and longevity needs to be proved and MG UK refuse to do anything about the fault characteristic despite a Financial Ombudsman concluding it is a fault 🫣

The older they get the more worried I’d be 😟

For my purchase at least, the copies of the proof were passed back to MG as it is they who provide the dealer with the extra price rebate.

Yep some dealers, no doubt would.
But pretty sure some wouldn't, I'm sure there's a way around it. Rather than lose a sale and the following maintenance of the vehicle. 🙂👍
