Have MG sorted out the MG4 yet?

Maybe it's the weather over your way Len, you need to come to Australia for a while and get the chill-out ;)

We bought the poverty pack 51kwh LFP model coming up to 12 mths ago .... I am very impressed with just how effortless it is to drive .... it has a few niggling problems every so often, I'm yet to own a car that has less issues than this one though.
Unfortunately, the self wash and detail function still doesn't seem to be anywhere in the pull down menu ... but then, it is the poverty pack model after all.
It took an hr to charge as well today, on a 150kw DC fast charger at that, so I was forced to sit in it with the dog and suffer the 24*C aircon rather than getting out and appreciating the invigorating 47*C just the other side of door .... The fact it cost me AUD$17 for the hr charging rather than the AUD$20 that the ICE cars got to pay, without getting free fuel while enjoying the fleecing of their wallets, and read some of my book on the phone while waiting for the wife to finish her specialist appointment, just added to the frustration ;)

I am completely chilled 😁

7 Weeks in and more than happy, only gripe so far is the awful bluetooth connectivity. The only thing I have to disable when I get in is the overspeed warning, 3 taps on the screen. No issues with the LKA.
LKA has long been fixed on all newer cars hopefully, used to be atrocious

Very interesting thread. I love my MG5 pre-facelift - it has been totally reliable and really is a joy to drive. If you can get one used at a good price, I do not think you would be sorry. Mine is four years old now. I considered an upgrade but decided to keep the MG5 and trade-in the hybrid Lexus!

I was given a hybrid Lexus, a GS450h, it had messed with one of those multiple cable type road side fences ... at least once on every panel as it went round and round along it ... the driver walked away and bought another one, walking away from spin at over 180km/h would give you faith in the cars ability to keep you alive .....
I plan to use it to convert either our V10 petrol guzzling motorhome, or a 2001 V6 Merc with a noisy motor that blows oil smoke .... my next car will be a blend of old skool and EV .... if it doesn't have the bells and whistles, they can't stop working and I won't complain about it

So MG had my car for half a day doing the recalls. Apparently they tested the battery charger setting it at 70% and it shut off as normal. The first thing that happened when I got back in the car was the "Driver Alertness System Fault" appearing on the dash. I'll find out tomorrow if the long journey mode issue is fixed as its plugged in scheduled to charge tonight.

Other people's stories of the Mk.1 MG5 being good are what turned me down the MG path in the first place. Sadly my '4 has been problematic since day 1. I really wish I had rejected it on day 1.

Scheduled charge last night happened, and well, it ignored the 90% that I had set before getting out of the car (need to do a moderate length journey today) and went straight to 100%.

@MelanieMoxon, what is your charging set up?

I'm on Octopus Go with an OHME ePod. I prefer to use the car's schedule to manage the charging ( start time plus charge to set limit not to an end time) at Max rate but the OHME wants to be in charge. This allows the car to charge and do its low percentage balance within my cheap tariff time.

I'm investigating whether checking the status of the car whilst it is waiting to start triggers early charging if the OHME is on Max charge. On dynamic charging and with a price limit it will wait until the cheap time.

I set the charge limit in the iSmart app, works every time.
Makes no difference, defaults to 100% when I do this.

I have myEnergi charger and use Octopus Go. The charge schedule (e.g. 12:30 - 05:30) works fine, it always starts at 12:30 shuts off at 05:30 whether the car reaches its charge set point or not. I had an issue a while back with a manual boost being set on the charger meaning it ignored the schedule once it started, but that is fixed.

The issue is the car ignoring battery health mode or indeed any charge set point in the car or on the iSmart App; last night I got back from the dealership with 67% in the battery, I set it to boost to 90% overnight, ordinarily for this journey I'd start with 100% but I wanted to test the "fix". The car reached 100% charge long before it hit is 05:30 shut off time according to the myEnergi App. And before anybody comments, yes the car is a LR Trophy.

The VT paperwork is now on its way and I am looking forward to getting rid of the MG4, I'm sick of spending my holiday days and Flexi time taking this thing to the dealership; this is the 4th time now (alright the previous 3 were "we didn't have time to look at it" and yesterday was a different dealer).

So you are like me with Octopus Go.

It is not clear from your reply whether you are using the schedule in the MyEnergi EVSE or the car's. I use the car's schedule and set the End time to 'Charge to the target battery level', ensuring that that target level will be reached within the 5 hours of cheap time. I usually set for Max charge on the EVSE though Dynamic charges gives better statistics information. So far this has worked.

Hi, I’m looking to take some test drives in the new year for the MG5, the MG4 and the Model 3.

Head says MG5 but I do find it a bit…fugly.

I’m sure the Model 3 is a great car but I’m honestly put off by the image and also worry that Tesla could implode if the tech bubble had a sharp correction.

I’m most likely to like the MG4 the most since it fits my use case the best, but I am genuinely put off by all the negative press on reliability.

To those in the know or have access to more data on this forum, what is the consensus on the face lift (post 2023) MG4 models? Are the niggles ironed out? Are there any big issues that render the car undrivable that are still plaguing the model? I’m in Leeds so any terrible news on the Leeds dealer (I’ve heard they’re ok from reviews).

will be buying used and I hold my cars for about 7-10 years.
I have an MG4 Trophy LR.
Good points:
  • cheap to buy
  • looks quite nice
  • RWD so fun driving through twisty bits
  • i like the MG Pilot ADAS and one-pedal driving
Bad points:
  • depreciates like a stone so I will lose money on it
  • the software is absolutely crap; the infotainment screen takes an age to start, the hands free bluetooth phone often does not work, the climate settings often just spontaneously turn off, the drivers display shows horrific error messages such as "ACC failed" and red battery warning lights when the car starts; they disappear after some time. my local dealer is not at all interested in applying software updates to fix those.
  • bluetooth pairing to phones is deleted after every trip, and phones have to be re-paired.
  • the ismart app is useless, doesn't work for more than one phone and doesn't let you switch on the heated steering wheel remotely. WHY DON'T MG ADD THAT FEATURE?
  • the ADAS features that i want: one-pedal, eco mode, high regeneration, switch themselves off after every trip, and before i start a new trip i need to go through a long ritual of fiddling with the screen to turn them on again. i can't just drive off like I do with other cars. argh!
  • there are no air vents or lamps in the back. it can't be too expensive to add lamps, surely?
  • the charging light stopped working and the dealer always says that they don't have the replacement part in stock. i've given up trying to get it replaced under warranty because of the faff of continuously calling the dealer.

Frankly, it is OK for a cheap runabout, but it is not good quality at all, and I wish that I had bought something else. I am trapped by negative equity now, so I can't sell it.
