Hi All, Purchased a 22 plate ZS EV last Friday. Been a Ford owner for over 20 years so never really had to ask about the controls of a new car.
All seems to be fine and working out how to work all the features but we can’t get hot air to come out the vents. Just blows out tepid air. Had it back to garage to look at it but they found no issues and when the husband picked it up there was warm air coming out.
It’s not on eco mode and blower up full blast at high but still only managing tepid air. Cabin temp never above 21/22. Just want to exclude user error before we go back to the garage. Thanks

Hi, I was just about to ask a very similar question. Had my 73 plate ZS EV for about a month, and now that it’s turning cold wanted to know the best settings to get warm feet for the driver and front passenger while driving.

Best setting for getting the cabin heated up on a cold day is usually.

1. Do not set it to ECO, the ECO setting will limit how much power the heating element will be allowed to consume.

2. Start the cabin heating 10 minutes before leaving, this way the car has a chance of heating up a bit before you start the journey.

Also....If you put on the seat heating, you will need less heating in the cabin, the temperture can easily be set a few degrees lower and the heated seats use a LOT less heat, than the heater in the car

Please remember, this car has no heatpump so every joule of energy it needs to heat the air is drawn from the traction battery.

With a heatpump the car would be able to consume 1kW of electricity for every 3-4kW of heat, but without a heatpump, the car uses, what is essentially a toaster / blow dryer, to generate heat, so you are essentially burning 1kW of electricity to produce 1kW of heat.

Thanks for the info. Tested today and it’s great. Eco mode looks like it was my problem. Chose long weekend with storm Amy to go on a Scottish road trip and got soaked fighting with uncooperative fast chargers and apps. Will be more prepared and informed next time.

If you are an Octopus customer you can use the Electroverse RIFD card and it will come off your electricity bill at a discount of about 5%. You can still have one if you're no an Octopus customer but you have to set up a payment method and you don't get the discount but it's one card for a good majority of CPOs.

picked up my ZS on Saturday. I've been experimenting with all the settings, etc., while sitting in the car. It got a bit cold, so I tried to warm up the cab, but all I got was cool air.
Had the start button on and put the temperature up to max, but nothing but cool air, even left it for about 15 minutes to see if it warmed up, but no luck.
any ideas? Was on 'normal' mode.
Thanks.

Were you in ECO mode?
No, it was the first thing I checked.
I'd seen some videos on YouTube that mentioned that it wouldn't work in eco mode.
I'll try it again in the morning, I believe that I can preheat the car before getting in it, we'll see if it works.

It will never get as warm as an ICE car, in fact my left foot feels frozen even when we have our heat on full in Normal... Needs better thermal insulation in the footwells.

Hi
Car has to have Eco off so in normal and in ready mode for the heating.

Hi maisie77, I recently purchased a second hand ZS EV which has developed a similar problem to the one you posted about. When I got the car the heating worked fine but after a few weeks with the weather exceptionally cold it has stopped blowing warm air through the A/C. Heated seats work perfectly. (Car not in ECO mode)

After a couple of posts this "thread" seems to peter out with no clear resolution. Has your problem been remedied, and if so how?

Hi trogg, any resolution to this problem?

I posted this recently (I may have posted it wrongly) and am awaiting responses:-

I have been having a problem with the heater on my recently acquired (second hand) MG ZS EV for the last two weeks.

I posted this wrongly on the MG4 forum and they have directed me here, though they report similar problems.

I noticed a very loud "crack" sound at the time the heater stopped working. From reviewing other post I suspect might well have been the "resistor", that is the unit that heats the air in the A/C failing. The fan is blowing air into the passenger compartment but it is only at the ambient temperature.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can progress this problem urgently. Local MG dealer (Arnold Clark can't fit me in until March 25!). Is diagnosing this going to help, and would fitting a new "resistor" myself be do-able?

Any advice on how I might proceed would be appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation.

If this is under warranty still then you can try other MG workshop, please note when I say workshop there where small out lets that sold new MG cars. Then MG for some stupid decision to stop supplying these out let over the big showrooms that are now the only place to buy a new MG, but they are still service and repair MG car so look round for one of them.

In the Wiki thread, scroll down to your model and see if there is a guide to fuses for the heater element. If you can find that, measure the amps running through the fuse circuit and that will tell you if the element is drawing any power .... you can also determine which side of the fuse goes to the element, then do a continuity test between the fuse holder and the vehicle negative, and see if there is still continuity telling you if there is still an intact element or no continuity, the circuit is broken.

You might be able to track down a second hand unit from a vehicle dismantler and replace the element ......

If you can't do it, maybe with the assistance of someone mechanically minded, or the local auto sparky, if you have the information and print it out, it will make the sparkies job much easier ....

EDIT: If you click the forum tab, the wiki tab is in the top line

I have not had a problem just been around MG cars for some time and have my car serviced at a non main dealership as I trust this place.
