I hate voice assistants - mine has been off from the start, along with Siri.

I'll be fine with them when the technology finally matures and probably depend on them if I lose my marbles but until then...
I use Siri in the five. With the phone plugged in. Phone/ message/ and what’s app messages and also asking for routes to places displayed on the car screen using Waze. Pretty successful in most cases.

I tried it, it's pretty terrible. Even the salesman at the dealership struggled to get it to do basic stuff, it didn't work and he moved swiftly on.

Luckily I just use Android Auto and Google's voice assistant is much better (but also not perfect at times) so it doesn't really bother me personally

Is there any logic at all to who it selects, for example is the name it selects in a certain position in the list in relation to the name you ask for ?

I use it for "radio on" and "increase fan speed" and other HVAC basic commands to free up a button on steering wheel for 360 camera (left) and driving mode (right).

My experience with this when trying to make a phone cal using my voice is:

"Hello MG - Call Wendy"
"Calling Phil B"

"Hello MG - Call House"
"Calling Starling Customer services"

Tried many times, with many tones of voice, fast, slow etc and the result is always the same.

My info system is on R30
Tried it whilst driving and when stationary too

Can you train the system to your voice ?
What are other peoples experience with this ?
I had a major tantrum with the dealer a couple of weeks ago, having sent them videos. The MG4 Trophy was brand new. I pointed out that if they can’t get it to work then I wanted my money back (Consumer Protection Act etc) to which they agreed. The voice system was unusable - either didn’t hear or didn’t understand, and only worked when pushing the button. Then gave absurd responses or just said it didn’t understand. They loaned me an MG ZS (the bigger one) in which Hello MG seems to work quite well. They’ve had the MG4 for a week now. They are waiting for a software update! Watch this space 😳😡

I got a new Trophy in Jan 2024 and huge issues with infotainment system. Got it replaced and so now MG can hear me, it same experience. Here’s a weird thing… when I say ‘call Fred bloggs’ it understands because it displays ‘call Fred blogs’. Then it calls mike housby. So it seems to me that synching contacts loads them into the database but scrambles them too.

I probably have too many contacts. I should start with one. Now trying to contact MG but suspect I’m on the red list.

I can sometimes get it to lower or raise the temperature, but that’s about all it does. Very disappointing if you compare it to the list of MG Hector voice commands available on other MGs in different markets.
Somtimes it feels like different company. How SAIC which should be the biggest car company in China can't stand with the technology standards of BYD, Geely, xpeng, and more

I have exactly the same issue !! (original Sept. 2023 R40 software).

Can I just confirm this is yet another Trophy only function? Certainly saying "Hello MG" in my SE LR doesn't seem to do anything

The last conversation I had with any car was akin to the scene in Fawlty Towers which involved John Cleese, an Austin 1100 and a sycamore branch, although my language might have been more fruity!
