I've just got my hands on a new MG4 as an outright purchase and have a question for everyone

I think everyone would agree that the provided warranty is a little hit and miss for some items with very short periods set. This makes sense for many parts, but a few, such as the 12 months/15k miles for seat covers, seem to be totally at odds with UK consumer law. So, has anyone yet had to throw the Consumer Rights Act 2015 at their dealer/MG to get things resolved, and if so, did the issue get resolved?

Oh, this is an upgrade to what has been my daily runner for the last 30-odd years - a MGB, so limited warranty support does not worry me that much :)

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

There have been various contretemps with dealers, and responses have been varied. In general I think people have had their issues resolved, albeit with a fair bit of shouting and aggro, but there remain some unhappy bunnies.

The seat cover thing struck me as ridiculous from the get-go. I think the issue is more pressing with the fake leather seats in the Trophy-trim models, the cloth seats in the SE seem more durable, Nevertheless I did this ASAP.

These are aftermarket seat covers from AliExpress as described in a couple of threads in the forum.

Two years later this happened. (This is the door-side panel of the driver's seat cushion.)

However the original supplier sent me a replacement piece for £23 which I have fitted and the great thing is, the original upholstery underneath it all is still in mint condition. I am not especially unhappy with this as I never expected these things to be particularly hard-wearing. I see them as sacrificial, to protect the original upholstery, and also to brighten the inside of the car a bit.

I can't find the main thread which included a lot of back-and-forth about fitting the things, but this is the most recently-active thread on the topic.

Here is where I got my covers from. The service was very good and there were no hidden extras. They replaces a couple of pieces that had a manufacturing error without quibble. I see the price has actually gone down and they seem excellent value.

(I do not know why that link is in German.) Here is what the page looks like. All colours available.

As I have the Trophy-trim model, maybe I will end up answering my own question in 1-2 years :)

As far as I can tell, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 would only help people who have directly purchased the car from a dealer, any finance agreement results in the car being purchased by a business, and so the act would not apply.
