I used to have a BMW M4 280HP. It was a cool car, but I set up 90% of its sporty features in the first month and they were useless for years. On the other hand, it had demanding components, such as a sensitive oil pump, two turbochargers, and active suspension – things whose advantages I never felt, but which cost me huge amounts of money when they broke down. The engine's howl when accelerating always announced, “Oh, it's showing off,” so I often denied myself maximum acceleration. The Xpower handles perfectly, and its rapid acceleration is much more practical than driving a BMW fast, because I almost never drive fast. And what's always funny is buying a city car with a small battery and complaining about the short range. Didn't you know what you were buying? And yes, it is a city car despite its 435HP. So why did you buy an Xpower and expect something from it that it doesn't have? It meets all my requirements, it's hellishly fast when you need it to be, and it's economical in the city. 435HP does not automatically determine other standards, such as long range or incredible cornering (why the hell would you want to drive fast in corners anyway? Suicidal.)

Are you sure you didn’t have a 4 series M Sport, not an M4? No M4 has ever had just 280bhp.

yes, I did know what I was buying. 160 miles from a 64kwh battery is ridiculous. You can get over 300 miles out of a 64kwh battery in other cars, and well over 200 miles from a 50kwh battery too. So being condescending here really doesnt work. Also, it absolutely is not a city car. It’s a family sized hatchback, not a super mini. The Renault5, Mini Cooper E or Honda E are city cars. Not a 5 door MG4 with a 64kwh battery.

A car that’s capable of going from a standing start to 60 in sub 4 seconds absolutely should have uprated brakes, suspension, tyres etc. otherwise it’s not safe. That’s a crazy statement.

And who doesn’t want to drive fast in corners? It’s what makes driving fun. How on earth is that suicidal?😂 there are entire sports and car classes designed to see which cars go round corners fastest, and manufacturers spend millions trying to get cars to corner quickly, smoothly and safely.

The XPower corners well anyway, it’s pretty flat and surprisingly good. But it does get a bit sketchy when you go a bit too fast - if you’ve owned a BMW M4 you’d notice the difference in handling immediately, if you don’t, I’m sorry but you should never have bought an M4!

280HP - disappointed with the acceleration, I did some software tuning. And as I mentioned, this is a city car, like the entire MG4 series, you can see that right away, xpower is only for crazy people. :) So, where are the curves in the city? There are almost none. Where in the city do you drive at maximum speed? Nowhere. Where in the city do you use super acceleration? Many times a day. This car is not for you, but it's perfect for me. I don't regret the purchase at all, and it meets my needs perfectly.

I'm confused here, are you for or against the XPower?

The MG4 is not a city car, it is a small family car, the same size as a Golf.

Small battery, small trunk, not very comfortable for long trips, ELECTRIC – these are not disadvantages for me, because for me these are the characteristics of a city car. I have another car for family trips. I just wanted to point out that buying a car with a set of advantages and disadvantages must be a conscious decision. It's like complaining about my old BMW because it wasn't suitable for family driving, was noisy, and had high fuel consumption. Were these disadvantages? No, it was a conscious choice. So this review of the xpower, most of its “disadvantages,” is just a description of bad, ill-considered choice.

The MG4 doesn’t have a ‘small battery’ 😂 it’s not a city car. Just like your ‘280bhp’ BMW was not an M4. Just because YOU drive yours in the city, doesn’t make it a city car. I’ve driven a Mini Cooper through a flooded road, it didn’t make it a boat…

I’m glad you’re happy with your car. Congratulations. A little confused as to how you’ve mentioned owning two cars and got the model wrong on your old car and the car class wrong on your current car.

I think I’ll take my car buying tips from somebody other yourself, thanks 👍🏻

The MG 4 is definitely not a city car, if that was the case they wouldn't have made the urban or be developing the MG 2. What's that going to be a small city car?

Most of the flaws you mentioned are along the lines of “I chose a car with a small battery—I complain that the car has a small battery.” I understand that you evaluate a car before buying it and then say, “Hmm, this xpower has a small battery, so I won't buy it,” but as it turned out, you made a bad choice consciously and you mention it as a disadvantage. Similarly, I am curious about your opinion on the brakes. I don't believe you experienced any problems with the brakes; you probably just don't like the discs being too small compared to, say, a Lamborghini? Why don't you just write, “I bought an xpower and was surprised that it has so many disadvantages compared to the Tycan.” I chose it as a car for commuting to work and short trips, and it's great for that purpose. We chose the same car, but you chose poorly and I chose perfectly.

My first car, bought with my own money, was cheap, small, slow, and great for any trip. Now that I can be picky and accurately assess my needs, the MG4 only meets the requirements of a city car. Of course, you can drive it all over Europe if you really want to.

Thanks for your astute observation, I wish I was as intelligent as you think you are.

On the basis that you think you can get a BMW M4 with just 280bhp, I can safely conclude that you know absolutely nothing worth knowing about cars. You’re getting boring now, find another thread to embarrass yourself on👍🏻

To be fair you are entitled to class it how you like but we all know it's not a city car, similarly EV wise 64 kWh battery is not a small battery, it is now pretty much average
As far as the X Power goes, as this is the point of this thread, it is 100% not a city car! If you used what the X power is great at (0-60) then you would be pretty irresponsible, even playing foot to the floor 0-30 in a built up area is being a clown, as a kid/person could walk out from nowhere.

Going back to the 0-60 times related to battery % it has been proven that this occurs, there is even a YouTube video from Bjorn Nyland documenting this.
It does also appear that some cars seem impacted by battery % more than others

Agree, it's definitely not a city car, it's too big, simple's.
Don't quite agree, with if you use the 0-60
which let's face it, is the X Power's, party piece, you are irresponsible. Absolutely depends where you use it. As you say in a
built up area, busy traffic etc, then yes you are a numpty. But you ain't gonna buy an
X Power and not exploit it's acceleration, (safely) else what's the point.
Also agree you could have 5 exact cars, and they'll all behave differently. We've proved that on this forum. 🙂👍

I've had my XPower since Q3 2023. Apart from the vibration at around 70mph, which I either don't notice or don't mind, the two complaints I have are (a) no lumbar support in the driver's seat (b) Android Auto cutting out sometimes while driving.

I've just bought a cushion from Amazon to address (a). For (b), Gemini suggests resetting the infotainment by pressing the Home button for 10-15 seconds. I did that a few days ago and so far no issues.

On the upside, I continue to find the car massively entertaining to drive due to its excess power. That was the reason I chose it and I remain happy with the price I paid. I buy cars new and drive them until they need replacing and the XPower will do me just fine in that regard.

Last post from me. Battery on 92% SOH.
Last 100% charge gave me approx 115 miles.
Hope everyone else enjoys theirs more than I did mine! Least favourite car I’ve ever owned out of over 30 cars.

Ciao!

Didn't mean using the 0-60 was irresponsible, that's exactly why you get one, was meaning using it within a built up area was irresponsible
Which most "city" cars are used in.

Which brings us right back to it's not a city car
