I created an AI with all the information on MG4

Hi Everyone,

Every time I had an issue with my MG4, I found myself spending more time searching through manuals than actually fixing the problem. That’s why I decided to train an AI, using all available MG4 manuals, to help with troubleshooting, maintenance, and programming. This AI can quickly provide answers and solutions, saving time and effort.

It can answer questions about:
  • Diagnosing issues
  • Disassembly and reassembly
  • Software adjustments
  • Problem-solving based on symptoms
The goal is to help each other without spending too much time searching through all the manuals.

To try it out, here is the link: MG4 Tech Assist

If you’re interested, let me know what you’d like it to help with. I'm open to all kinds of feedback, so feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions.

Edit: For the moment the chatbot is not well-trained on the MG4 XPower model. I'm working to train the model for Xpower.

Hi I tried to access the MG4 Tech Assist just now but I got a prompt about requesting access. See the screenshot.

Can you assist me with access?

Obviously the AI has decided that MG4s have been around for 3 years and all technical issues will have been fixed by MG. Therefore its existence is no longer required and it decided to shut itself down :)
Either that or the Morris Gnomes (aka MG) have been round with a slight reminder about copyright.

Hi everyone, sorry for the absence. I had decided to abandon the project because the system for managing custom GPT bots wasn’t suitable for creating GPTs that read from manuals. Lately, they’ve made some improvements to document reading, so I decided to recreate the project from scratch. Just a heads-up: it’s still in testing, but it seems much better now at reading and retrieving information from manuals.

This is the link: ChatGPT - MG4 Tech Assistant V2.

Let me know if you find some improvements in the GPT.

Doesn't seem to work for me...

My test query: -

How do you manually unlock the charger?

The response

The message you submitted was too long, please reload the conversation and submit something shorter.

I don't know why it gave you that error, I just tried with your exact question and here's the answer:
"To manually unlock the charger on the MG4 in case it is stuck, the official procedure is as follows:
  1. Open the trunk.
  2. Locate the emergency release device near the charging port area inside the luggage compartment.
  3. Pull the emergency release cable to mechanically release the locking mechanism of the charging connector.

This procedure is detailed as a manual override for situations where the charging connector cannot be unplugged normally, such as due to a power failure or system fault."

Try to cancel your browser history and make sure that you are using the 4o model on Chatgpt.

My test:

What capacity is the HV battery in the SE SR?

ChatGPT said:

The MG4 SE SR (Standard Range) version is equipped with a high-voltage (HV) battery with the following specifications:

  • Nominal energy: 51 kWh
  • Nominal capacity: 156 Ah
  • Nominal voltage: 327 V
  • Cell configuration: 1P104S
  • Protection rating: IP67
  • Battery pack weight: approximately 398.7 kg.
This corresponds to the lower-capacity battery option in the MG4 lineup.

Working for me now...

One of our newer members was asking about the slow DC charging he's experiencing. I agreed it was slow and responded I wasn't aware of a way he could have affected it himself.
Figured I might as well test our AI Overlord with the question!

Can you throttle the DC fast charge rate?

Based on the official MG4 manuals, there is no documented function that allows a user to directly throttle or limit the DC fast charging rate manually via the infotainment system or vehicle settings.

Key points:

  • DC fast charging is managed automatically by the vehicle's battery management system (BMS) and the Combined Charging Unit (CCU), based on parameters such as battery temperature, state of charge, and external charger characteristics.
  • During low-temperature fast charging, the battery heater activates automatically to optimize charging speed and protect battery health.
  • There is no mention of user-adjustable settings to reduce or limit the rate of DC charging in any of the available menus or service configurations.

If your objective is to charge the battery more gently, it is recommended to use AC charging (especially at 7–11 kW), which is supported and even encouraged for battery equalisation and long-term health.

If you require a custom setup (e.g. limiting charge rate due to infrastructure constraints), you may need to rely on the charger itself (if it supports such settings) or consult an MG Authorized Service Center.
