I think you hit the nail on the head in your last paragraph
@hmadsen - I kinda like the Tesla, but I really don't like Musk.
Yes, i know what you mean, and it's not, that there is nothing to dislike about him, he is quite the character, i dont particularly love the guy myself, but i do honestly think they make quite decent cars.
Some of the benefits of the Tesla as a car that i have found, compared to the MG
* Software updates, this will insure that the car will become better, and have new features added over time. (It seems to me that the MG is not really getting "updated" or have features added sadly, even though this was a strong selling point for me with OTA updates).
* Vastly better automation, i did a long'ish drive in the Tesla and i can tell you, the car was driving itself atleast 80% of the time, it is quite relaxing this way, the MG Pilot was a lot more irate with beeping, and not nearly as refined.
* The MG has electricly adjusted seats and side mirrors, but the Tesla has memory for this. When i get in, the seat is adjusted all the way back, the steering wheel is adjusted all the way forward and up, making entry VERY easy, but as soon as the door is closed and i press the brake, the seat, the steering wheel and the side mirrors automatically adjust to my settings. If i adjust a setting, it instantly asks me if i want to save this, and then this becomes my new default setting. No more jumping into the drivers seat only to get wedged between the seat and the steering wheel because my wife has adjusted it to suit her driving position, and i need to adjust everything back.
* App is a lot better
* Heated rear seats for the kids on all 3 positions.
* Charging is a breeze. I know i only owned the MG for 4 months and the problem would have been less and less over time, but the fact that "every time" i had to go charge somewhere, i arrived, just to find the charger was with a company i had not previously used so i had to download an app, make an account, setup payment and only then could i start the charge. I regularily spent 10 minutes getting the charger going if it was a company i had not used before, and 2-5 minutes if it was one that i had been using.
Now i just pull in to a supercharger, plug in, and 20 seconds later the charger starts charging, and after i end the charging the amount is deducted from my CC, the tesla charger knows what VIN to bill.
Also, i had to do the charge planning myself, the Tesla plans this for me, dynamically, so that if i drive nicer than it expects and the range is longer, it will just adjust the suggested charging place to whatever suits the range right now.
If the kids has to have a toilet break even if the car does not want to charge, we can just pop in, plug it in for 10 minutes while the pee, and then continue, and the car will calculate when we now need to stop for electrons next time.
* Up to 250 KW charging instead of 80 KW, means that we spend less time at the charger. (Plus we start the charge faster)
* Lot more space in the backseat for the kids
* Loads more space in the boot, under the boot floor is a huge hole, and also the Frunk. If we end up going to Italy this year, we will not need the roof box, there is plenty of space in the car to accomodate whatever we would have put in the box.
Bad stuff
- No Radar for the distance measurement.
- No rear cross traffic alert
- No parking sensors (Camera based system, that for now atleast is not nearly as accurate)
Dont get me wrong, i am NOT trying to talk the ZS EV down, if ours had not been totalled, we would not have swapped, and if they had delivered the new ZS EV before tesla slashed prices, we would taken delivery and been happy with the MG.
