IM6 Insurance

Hi all,

Apologies if I am becoming tiresome with spamming updates on insurance.
Trying to be helpful :)
So it appears Hastings started provided quotes for me. £900 for 10k miles per year with 1k being business use.
Not bad. For content I am 44, Liverpool postcode, 14 years NCD, wife included (13 years NCD).

Ok I am really happy now ;)

Don’t Hasting require telematics in the car?

Definitely more underwriters offing IM6 insurance now.

Had a call from my dealer to say my IM6 had arrived. Just sorted out the insurance. My Ioniq 5 is with Saga and they quoted £508 for my IM6 Long Range - £31 less than I paid for the I5!

I got the quote yesterday for 18 Dec but wanted to move it forward a day. Called SAGA and theysaid the new quote would by £560….. so I left it to start on 18 Dec. My dealer also offers 1 day free Driveaway Insurance.

Worked out nicely. 🙂👍

Be careful if you are looking at SAGA insurance, i have just had a long chat with them and a condition of the insurance you have to have a Thatcham Category 1 alarm, i sort of assumed the Im6 would be but nowhere is it mentioned, even SAGA couldn't confirm and said they suspected it wasn't. I backed out in the end.

The Cyberster has one, I'd be surprised if the IMs don't... will check the Thatcham website.

I can't find anything listed in the August 2025 Thatcham doc release and I can't see a more recent one (doesn't mean it isn't there). I would assume yes, but obviously it needs confirming.

Thatcham Cat 1 are on almost all cars since the late 1990s -it is the simplest of systems.

Strictly they require -
YOUR VEHICLE is fitted with an immobiliser security device CONFORMING to Thatcham Category 1 standard.

Just purchased mine and was stunned to find my current company Admiral don't cover them, switching from my MG4 X-Power they advised I could cancel it from the policy with a £39.50 admin fee. Needless to say that was dropped pretty sharpish. Looks like I'm Tesco bound.

I have used Saga in the past, as they cover use abroad for up to 365 days per year, which is almost impossible to find elsewhere these days. It is for over 50s only, though.

Tried Saga this morning as I more than meet the over 50 requirement, couldn't get a quote on line as after completing the "forms" every time I went to submit got a message that the site was down for maintenance so gave them a call, nice lady found my form, checked the details and then told me they could not provide cover.

She was very surprised and went to check with her line manager who double checked and it was a decline, can't give me a reason as they can't see why, clean licence, no accidents or convections etc etc, maybe I'm too old?

Got sorted with Axa Insurance eventually with Tesco as a back up, would be nice if Admiral would get their act together before the 29th though......

Which version of the car as they had no problem insuring my LR.
