I think the infotainment is overheating when it freezes. Mine (MG5 LR pre facelift) froze mid journey for the first time and it was after I put the heating on full and opened the vents on either side of it.
I can't remember the last time I opened those vents or the last time it froze mid journey although it does occasionally have issues when it first turns on.
