I have just accepted a lease on a new IM5 Standard Range with delivery around November. 🙌

I've been looking at insurance through the various comparison sites and while the quotes are reasonable (if a little high), there only appears to be a handful of lesser known insurance companies that show up.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a new model to be added to insurers systems?

Also, does anyone know what the insurance group of the standard range is as even the dealer who I test drove at could only tell me that the Performance model was group 50 and nothing else.

It can take a good few months on comparison sites, but usually if you ring your existing insurer via phone, you'll usually find a similar match from the options between you and the operator. After a few months then the exact model will start to be populated and then you can ring them up again to advise them thats its not an exact match. At least thats what we needed to do on an MG4 3 years ago. For salaracy sacrifice lease deals, then thats already sorted as insurance is included.

Miles Roberts put the insurance codes you need for the IM5 in an IM6 post. You can get the codes from there and contact an insurance broker with them.

Copying them here for ease of reference:

ABI code; 33701391 - Description; IM5 75 Standard range

ABI code; 33701392 - Description; IM5 100 long range

ABI code; 33701393 - Description; IM5 100 Performance

I got a quote from moneysupermarket yesterday for an IM6

Yeah, I got some quotes from there also, but out of the 175 providers it says its checking, theres only 4 that show up :)

I also get 5 quotes. So far it's only LV (£794) and Tesco (£1.8k - £2.3K) that are showing for me.

I was told by my dealer that my MG 4 trophy is group 25 the long
Range IM5 is group 22 can’t wait to find the cash to buy a IM5 in grey

I was impressed by Churchill - we'd only just reinsured our old car but they were very much on the ball, it cost me £275 extra to add to the £342 already paid . Not bad. They also rigged it so I was covered for both cars on the exchange day! They had no trouble locating the model.

I have a Long-range IM5 on order.
Insurance is quoted as Band 50 (as the Performance model) which is a hang-up.
But even the long-range has over 400bhp, so I am not surprised.
Funnily enough, my Maserati has the same power but costs far less (less than 50% in fact).
Go figure!
My guess is that: It's Chinese, has no track record and parts are sure to be hard to acquire . . . for now.

There's a useful tool here for checking insurance groups which does seem to be quite reliable. It does take a month or two for data on new vehicles to appear.

Use MG Motor as the car brand when searching if you do not have a registration number.

The IM5 is in the range 46 to 50, which is disappointing given the drop in Tesla groupings with the new Model Y and Model 3.

Thank you for the answer. Time will tell if the same were to happen to the IM range.
I will follow your link, thank you so much.

I have done that - excellent resource.
