Hi all
New to the forum and 2nd newbie post. I am due to receive my long range S5 trophy on 26 Jan in blue and I am an Octopus customer in the UK but not on a EV tarrif yet. I contacted them to fit a Hypervolt pro charger and was told 8 to 12 weeks which is crazy. I only decided I was getting a new car on Saturday as the S5 on affinity was a no brainer.
Anyway, I am looking at alternative installers for the charger but my question relates to Intelligent Octopus Go tarrif and charging. For it to work with hypervolt, Am I correct in thinking that you schedule the charging via the Octopus app or is it the Hypervolt app or the in car scheduling? I have seen videos where you tell the app you want your car at 80% by 6am and it works out a schedule.
My normal shifts mean I would be home at 1030pm 3 or 4 days a week with a 50 mile return each day so would I need to plug in even if I have enough range? do people keep their EV topped up all the time or let the range drop and then charge?

On the days I am off I mostly do short trips and again do I keep it plugged in for IOG to determine a schedule. I mean its cheap electricity but no free for EV charging right?
thanks

Just plug in when you get home.
Set it to ADD the percentage you need to get to 80% and what time you need it by.
I normally plug in daily or if I am below 40-50%.
Do a charge to 100% monthly to balance the battery.

Do you just use the octopus app for everything and leave car scheduling to that? Or do you use your charger app or car to schedule?

My install for charger should in my mind be easy as per pic below. Octopus are quoting £1199 for black and 10M of cable and less than 10 m Install cable and 3yr warranty but a 8 to 12week wait. Hypervolt direct £1224 but they passed my info on to a local supplier 24.7.EV but I am not sure Warrington is local to central belt of Scotland LOL. and they quote £1150

I suggest EV Chargers and EV Charger Installation
They were great and were able to supply & fit the Ultravolt Home 3 Pro with 7.5m cable tethered, which Octopus could not. They will give you a quote after you've sent a few photos & taken a video.

Have you already got a smart meter?

Looks like you could fit the charger right behind the meter to avoid any ugly surface wiring.

Don't get 10m cable if you don't really need it; I recon the retail cost is about £10/m, and longer cables will have higher losses (although no idea by how much). However, cable does need to be long enough to lay on the ground for most of its length, in order to limit weight hanging on the car ev port/socket.

With Intelligent Octopus Go I typically set Charge Required to about 35%, then set limit in car to 80% for all local use. Don't set a very large Charge Required, but its OK to set a modest level higher than you need, without having to calculate & re-enter the required level every time you use it.

I generally plug the car in after we've finished using it for the day, so its always ready-to-roll the next day with 80% SoC.

I would say get the 10 metre cable for that setup, for me it means I don't have to worry about where the car is parked on the drive, the cable will reach.

All the control for the Hypervolt is through the Octopus app, you tell it the percentage you want to add and what time you need it by. I never bother setting the limit in the car, it saves messing about if I want to charge to more than 80%.

If you want to really get the max out of Octopus, join Greener nights, you can earn a few quid each month if you only charge on greener nights.

Yes I was thinking the same with 10M as I might ne 1st car in the drive or the second and whether I reverse or drive in gives me the option.

On a side note can anyone confirm what cable is supplied to charge is it a Type 2 to type 2 or a "granny charger"

thanks

When I got my S5 Trophy last month, I got a 5 meter Type 2 to Type 2 cable with it.

thanks everyone for info. I will invest in a "granny charger" for the times I stay at Holiday rentals that may not have dedicated chargers as I suppose its handy to have just in case
